Complaint:
Hissing noises and poor engine output when accelerating.

Information: The yellow engine diagnosis warning lamp can light up and the fault code P226300 may be current or
stored in the CDI control unit.

Cause:
One or more of the mounting screws of the charge-air distributor on the cylinder head could be loose or broken (see
picture 01).

Remedy:

1. Perform leak test of intake air system using leak tester (A000 588 18 21 00).

Information: If the mounting screw of the charge-air distributor on the cylinder head is found to be loose or bro-
ken without performing any testing work, please do not perform the leak test.

Information: To perform the leak test of the intake air system, see the video "AD — Flue gas diagnosis for leaka-
ges with UltraTraceUV" in WIS Service Media under function group 09 via model 906.

To launch WIS Service Media, refer to the document SI00.01-Z-0012A.

- If there is a smoke formation in the area between the charge-air distributor and the cylinder head during the
leak test, continue with step 2.

- If there is a smoke formation in other areas or if there is no smoke formation during the leak test, identify the
exact cause of the problem and initiate appropriate measures.

2. Remove the charge-air distributor (see ARO9.41-D-1310WE for model 906).

3. | Check the sealing surface of the charge-air distributor for possible damage from combustion gases.

Information: Replace or reuse the charge-air distributor according to findings.

4. Check the threaded holes for the charge-air distributor on the cylinder head for debris from the mounting screws
(see picture 02).

Information: Only do this if the mounting screws were broken. Any debris from mounting screws (see picture 02)
must be properly removed from the threaded holes in the cylinder head.

Note: If any mounting screws are broken, all eight mounting screws must be replaced. The mounting screws
with sleeves can be removed from and inserted into the charge-air distributor by hand (see picture 03). They are
special stretch bolts. Consequently it is imperative that the screws listed in the parts table are used, otherwise
repeat damage can occur.

5. — Install the charge-air distributor (see ARO9.41-D-1310WE for model 906).

Information: Replace or reuse the charge-air distributor according to the findings of the checks in operation step
3.

Information: When replacing the eight mounting screws, the old mounting screws with sleeves must be removed
by hand from the charge-air distributor and the new mounting screws with sleeves must be inserted by hand into
the charge-air distributor (see picture 03).

Information: Strictly observe the tightening sequence, torque and tightening angle for the mounting screws of the
charge-air distributor on the cylinder head in the relevant WIS documents.

Information: Replace the molded seal for the charge-air distributor on the cylinder head. Additional replacement
part scopes, small parts and consumable materials for carrying out this repair work must be replaced according
to the information in the repair documents referred to in this document.

6. Connect the diagnostic device (see AD00.00-D-2000-04SD for model 906).

Information: Only do this if the fault code P226300 is current or stored in the CDI control unit. Strict compliance
with the operation steps in XENTRY Diagnostics is absolutely essential.

7. Erase the fault memory.

Information: Only do this if the fault code P226300 is current or stored in the CDI control unit.

8. Disconnect the diagnostic device (see AD00.00-D-2000-04SD for model 906).

Information: Only do this if the fault code P226300 is current or stored in the CDI control unit.
