TLM Master Leveling Cylinder Clearance

Issue:
Terex Utilities has become aware that wear of pivot bushing on TLM units built from August, 9, 2007 to
September 30, 2015 allows an increase in boom movement which may allow the Master Leveling
Cylinder rod and the Upper Boom Pivot boss to contact. This can occur when the boom is fully raised at
full speed to the lift cylinders full stroke. Repeated contact may cause the master cylinder rod eye to
crack. Failure of the master cylinder rod eye will cause the platform to lock in position and stop
leveling.

Action:
Immediately inspect for cracks on the master cylinder rod eye, as shown below, before further use of the
machine.
1. Perform a visual inspection for cracks in the master cylinder rod eye areas shown below. Look
especially around the area were the rod eye is welded to the rod.
2. Inspect the upper boom pivot boss for signs that the master leveling cylinder rod has made
contact. Also, inspect the cylinder rod for chrome damage to determine if contact is evident.

3. If cracks are detected take the machine out of service and contact your local Terex dealer or
Terex Utilities Service Department at 1-800-982-8975 or email machine information to
[email protected] to schedule an appointment for repair .
4. Terex Utilities recommends you perform this action as soon as possible. This action shall be
completed no later than 60 days from receipt of this bulletin

Continued Use:
All machine users and operators must be notified of these continued use requirements. If no cracks are
detected you may continue to use the unit provided:
1. The master leveling cylinder rod eye is inspected for cracks weekly.
2. When operating at high boom angles approach maximum elevation slowly and not at full upper
boom speed.
3. If cracks are detected take the machine out of service and contact your local Terex dealer or
Terex Utilities Service Department at 1-800-982-8975 or email machine information to
[email protected] to schedule an appointment for repair .
4. If the master leveling cylinder rod eye fails while elevated, use the level control at the upper or
lower control stations to manually level the platform while stowing the boom. Refer to the
operator’s manual for operation. Remove the machine from service and repair it before
returning to service.
Always follow all maintenance and inspection requirements as specified in the manuals. Inspect the
wear of the bushings and replace as needed.
What Terex will do:
Because Terex Utilities wants your product to perform as you would expect please respond to this
bulletin so Terex can repair all affected units.
Dealers and Installers: A letter is being sent to owners of affected units. If an owner contacts you
about this bulletin contact Terex Utilities Service Department at 1-800-982-8975, for further instructions.
You will be sent a form to complete for reimbursement. If the unit does not have cracks instruct the
owner they may continue to operate following the frequent and periodic inspection requirements as
instructed in manuals and instructions above for continued use are followed. The repair will take less
than 2 hours to complete.
Important: Some of the involved units may be in rental fleets. Terex requires owners to complete the
service on these units before renting, or to inform the renters within 10 days of receipt of this bulletin.
