This document is to inform dealers and workshops of the procedures on applying an anti-seize
lubricant to the VNT Turbocharger link rod for the J05D and J08E engines
engines.

RELEVANT MODELS:
All 2005 thru 2010 J05D and J08E engines

SYMPTOM / CONDITION:
Numerous turbochargers have been replaced because of a seized VNT link rod. The following
service procedure will minimize the occurrence of this type of failure

PARTS REQUIRED:
a). Cleaner (a type of fast drying grease remover like Brake Clean)
b). LOCTITE 51286 / Anti Seize Compound, Nickel, 12-oz. Aerosol (preferred)
(A paste type of Nickel Anti Seize Compound can be used as well)

PROCEDURE:
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Read and understand all instructions and procedures before you begin the work
Read and follow all WARNINGS set forth below
These alerts help to avoid damage to components, serious personal injury, or both
Park the vehicle on a level and solid surface
Apply the parking brake and confirm parking brake activation
Place wheel chocks in front of and behind all wheels
Remove ignition key to prevent engine start up
Let engine cool down and use care when working around surfaces which may be hot
Wear safety glasses to prevent eye injuries
Wear gloves to avoid any unwanted skin contact
Read and understand all caution items as described on Anti Seize container
Wipe off any grease that may have inadvertently gotten onto the exhaust pipe or turbo housing
Refer to any applicable Material Safety Data Sheet (M.S.D.S.)

Confirm that both links are dry and apply the Anti Seize lubricant
cycle the ignition key on and off 10 times. Apply the Anti Seize
lubricant again.
NOTE: When installing a new turbocharger clean and apply the Anti Seize lubricant prior to
turbocharger installation. Once installed cycle the ignition key on and off 10 times and apply
Anti Seize lubricant again.
