Summary
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a rough idle or misfire. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Code P0300 set in the Engine Control Module. Technician will need to utilize engine controls schematics to compare the Fuel Injector Control Circuit wire colors to determine if the wires are reversed. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition / Concern
A technician may encounter a rough idle, surge, shudder, poor transmission shift feel, misfire
with or with out diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0300 set in the Engine Control Module (ECM).
Recommendations / Instructions
While performing the visual inspection portion of Strategy Based Diagnosis, utilize engine
controls schematics to compare the Fuel Injector Control Circuit wire colors at the fuel
injectors and at the ECM connectors.
The connections at the fuel injectors or individual circuits at the ECM connectors can be
reversed leading to misfires that may occur only under specific circumstances or RPM ranges
making them difficult to duplicate or diagnose.
If this concern is found, inspect the related harnesses and terminals for signs damage due to
the misrouting.
If this concern is not found, continue with SBD on the symptoms.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is
resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
