The Particulate Matter Sensor Protection Tube Performance diagnostic may falsely fail, causing DTC P1488 to
set and command the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to illuminate.
This condition is currently under investigation by engineering.

Correction:
If the vehicle has set DTC P1488 check to see if the particulate matter sensor is loose in the exhaust pipe. If so, this PI does not apply.
If the sensor is properly torqued and the P1488 has requested the MIL, test the exhaust for leaks using the power smoke diagnostic leak detector (GE52250 - refer to the latest version of PIP5684). Because of the location of the exhaust cooler, the sealing bladder can't be used e ectively. The pressure
necessary to nd the leak is minimal, so using two wraps of duct tape around the pipe will seal the cooler holes su ciently for testing. Repair any leaks
as necessary but pay particular attention to the joint illustrated in the pictures below. If the joint is leaking the clamp may have bottomed out before
applying su cient clamp load to the joint. If this condition exists, replace the clamp.
Also replace the particulate matter sensor.
Note: This PI will be updated or replaced by a bulletin as additional information becomes available.
Please ensure you use the special labor operation for this concern.
