Truck came in and the driver is saying he has issues starting the truck when opt idle is engaged the truck will

start and then shut down after 3 seconds and do this a few times, but if he selects disable all for opt idle then

the truck will start just fine, he is also having issues with his a/c that I believe all this is tied to the opt idle he will

be driving down the road and the hvac blower will be running full speed with a/c on and then it will kick down to

a slower speed and wont allow you to adjust it unless sometimes he says he is able to hit disable all on opt idle

and that fixes it other times he has to reset the clds switch to get it to reset and be able to use the hvac again.

Any ideas I have searched solutions, forum, troubleshooting and the actual information on how opt idle works

to see if I could come up with an answer and have not. Any help would be appreciated.

To get a better understanding of how “Optimized Idle” works, look in section 8.20 of the GHG14

17 DDEC Electronic Controls A I Manual DDC-SVC-MAN-0127. The parameters listed in this

manual might not exactly show up the same as it seems most of them pertain to GHG 14.

If the engine is stopping after 3 seconds of running, it sounds like the parameter for idle shutdown time is

incorrect. I wonder if someone thought it was minutes and changed the parameter from 300 seconds (5

minutes) to 3 seconds ( thinking it was 3 minutes.) I would review this. I would also save the parameters and

compare parameters to OEM configuration to see if there are any differences.

Are there any faults for the HVAC issues? Have you been able to duplicate the complaint?

So I was able to reproduce the complaint when op idle was turned on and the icuc was on the option screen

when I started the truck it would shut down the truck after a couple seconds any other opt idle screen would

kick the opt idle out and the truck would stay running, the company took the truck as is, the hvac I was never

able to verify the complaint talked to the driver and he stated sometimes it would take a couple hours before

it would happen but I guess he now said the fan speed had to be at 1130 and then it would not allow you to

adjust it down or up after some time and fan speed would get slower until he shut clds off and reset it.

The opt idle should keep the engine running till the idle timer expires even if all other values are

met. I really don’t see how the HVAC issue could be tied into the opt idle if it’s happening driving

down the road.

Thats what I started to figure out I was originally going off what he was telling me but when truck is in gear you

can't get into the opt idle selections so I really don't think its related

Also the idle timer is set to 2600 seconds so that's like 43 mins and the truck shuts it down in less than that

Wondering if certain conditions are already met at the time of shut. If your just doing battery mode. If the

voltage is high enough( usually 12.4 but can be changed in parameters) and oil temp with its range (depending

on the parameter) the truck will just shut off right away unit battery voltage is low enough or oil temp is cool

enough to justify to the ecus to start.

Same goes for interior comfort mode. If the set temp in the sleeper is already within 7 degrees of the in the

temp inside to truck it will just shut off unit the temp rises or cools outside that seven degrees. I've even seen

it shut off right away but start the truck again with a few seconds of shutting off. It even will ramp up rpms at

parameters and operations.
