General Information
On New Cascadia vehicles, the air filter housing rear mounting bracket bolts may be found to be loose or
missing. If allowed to continue, this can lead to complete bolt failure which will allow the filter housing to rest on
and possibly wear through the valve cover. If the filter housing is not properly supported it can also lead to
under-hood air being ingested into the engine, possibly generating Detroit air inlet temperature fault codes. To
address this issue, the vehicle manufacturing plants have updated their process to add a medium strength liquid
thread locker to the fasteners that hold the rear mounting bracket to the filter housing.
NOTICE: If capscrews with damaged threads are installed in the filter housing, it will damage the
threaded inserts, which are not serviceable.
If this condition is observed the filter housing support bracket bolts have been running loose. They must be
replaced, and the valve cover must be inspected. See the procedure below to replace the air cleaner support
bracket bolts.
Air Cleaner Support Bracket Bolt Replacement
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.
2. Open the hood.
3. Remove the rear mounting bracket stud nut. See Fig. 1.

NOTICE: Improper tightening of the rear mounting bracket may result in Detroit air inlet temperature
fault codes and valve cover damage.
4. Remove the rear mounting bracket bolts from the housing.
5. Inspect the fasteners for thread damage. If no damage found, apply Loctite® 242 and tighten the rear
mounting bracket bolts 13 lbf·ft (18 N·m).
6. Tighten the rear mounting bracekt nut 13 lbf·ft (18 N·m).
