Door latch replacement

SITUATION :

Quality Engineering at McLaren Automotive have identified that
the existing door latches are susceptible to water ingress and
therefore at significant risk of failure.

PROCEDURE :

Replace both door latches on all affected vehicles

REMOVAL :
1. Please refer to A-RM-02A02-03-004 - Remove/Install luggage bin – Rear.
2. Please refer to A-RM-05M01-01-001 - Disconnect/Connect battery ground line.
Care point: Ensure leather strap is detached from the B-Pillar when removing B-Pillar finisher
3. Please refer to A-RM-06N06-01-008 - Remove/Install B-Pillar finisher.
4. Detach release cable (1) from bracket.
5. Disconnect electrical connector (2).
6. Remove bolts (3). M8 x 16 26 Nm.
7. Remove bracket (4) partially with seat belt and move clear of area.

Care Point: Detach the manual release cable and wiring harness grommets from the B-pillar latch access cover
before removing the cover.
8. Remove B-pillar latch access cover (5).

9. Disconnect electrical connector (6).

Care Point: Only remove the release cable from the key barrel if replacing the left hand door latch. Left hand side
engine bay panel would have to be removed to gain access to the release cable.
10. Remove release cable (7) from key barrel using a small angular lever bar.

11. Remove bolts (8). M6 x 10 8 Nm
12. Remove door latch (9).

INSTALLATION :
Care point: to refit release cable we recommend the use of long nose pliers to insert the end of the cable on the
movable bracket. Use a small angular lever bar to press down the rubber grommet into the fix bracket
Care point: Remove excess sealant from B-pillar latch access cover.
Care point: Re-apply sealant Scotch-Weld 750c to the B-Pillar latch access cover. Allow 12 hours bonding time and
fix securely in place to prevent the access cover sagging during cure.
Care point: Scotch-Weld 750c is highly flammable and may cause eye irritation. Keep away from heat and all sources
of ignition. Keep container tightly closed and use only in well ventilated areas. Avoid eye contact, prolonged skin
contact, and prolonged breathing of vapour. Immediately flush eyes with water for at least 10 minutes and seek
medical advice if contact with eyes is made. If contact with skin is made wash affected area with soap and water. If
irritation persists seek medical advice.
Care point: It is vital that the manual door release leather strap is routed underneath the B-Pillar fixing bracket. Below
is an example of the correct routing (10):

13. Install components in reverse order.
14. Read and clear relevant Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s).

15. Perform functionality check ensuring that when the door release strap is pulled the door latch opens.

The door latches will be supplied directly from the McLaren Production Centre at no charge to the dealer. They are not
a stock item and cannot be ordered via Unipart.
The Scotch-Weld 750c is a 3M product that should be a stock item or easily obtained from a local supplier. McLaren
Automotive will cover the cost of one cartridge of this product on the first vehicle claim. Please contact your Regional
Aftersales Manager should you have any difficulties obtaining this product.
