Replacement of both door latches

SITUATION :

Quality Engineering at McLaren Automotive have released
updated software to improve the durability of both door latches.

PROCEDURE :

Replace both door latches on all affected vehicles.

REMOVAL:
1. Please refer to AA-RM-05M01-01-001 - Disconnect/Connect battery ground line.
Care point: Ensure that the leather manual release strap is detached from the B-Pillar when removing the B-Pillar
finisher.
2. Please refer to AA-RM-06N06-01-007 - Remove/Install B-Pillar finisher.
3. Detach the release cable (1) from bracket.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector (2).
5. Remove bolts (3). M8 x 16, 26 Nm.
6. Partially remove the bracket (4) with the seat belt and move clear of the surrounding area.

Care Point: Detach the manual release cable and wiring harness grommets from the B-pillar latch access cover
before removing the cover.

Remove the B-pillar latch access cover (5).

8. Disconnect the electrical connector (6).

Remove the release cable (7) from the key barrel using a small angular lever bar.

10. Remove bolts (8). M6 x 10, 8 Nm
11. Remove the door latch (9).

INSTALLATION :
1. Hand tighten the door latch securing bolts before applying the torque sequence below. Torque the bolts to 8 Nm.

Care point: To refit the release cable we recommend the use of long nose pliers to insert the end of the cable on the
movable bracket. Use a small angular lever bar to press down the rubber grommet into the fix bracket.
Care point: Remove excess sealant from B-pillar latch access cover.
Care point: Re-apply one of the recommended adhesives listed at the end of this document; to the B-Pillar latch
access cover. Allow 1 hour bonding time and fix securely in place to prevent the access cover sagging during cure.
2. Ensure that the manual release cable (4) is routed correctly in the direction of the arrow when installing the BPillar trim. It must not become trapped between the B-Pillar trim and the seat belt bracket area (5) or wrapped
around the seat belt bracket.

Care Point: Do not close the door onto a closed latch.
3. Perform following door latch functionality checks:o

Manually close the claw on the latch, 2 clicks to the fully latched position.
The window should push up showing the latch is reporting closed status.
Use the key to operate the exterior release cable (LH only) and release the latch, ensure the key returns back
to the rest position after the operation.
Manually close the claw on the latch, 2 clicks to the fully latched position.
Release the latch using the interior release cable and ensure the cable returns back to the start position after
the operation.
Manually close the claw on the latch, 2 clicks to the fully latched position.
Use a screwdriver to simulate a striker pin and pull it away from the vehicle in line with the door opening angle
to ensure the latch claw remains closed. If the latch claw opens, recheck the tension on the mechanical
cables.

4. Ensure the latch is released before closing the door.
5. Install all the components in reverse order.

Jet Melt 3796 adhesive requires 3M Hot Melt Applicator TC or an equivalent needs to be sourced locally.
20 of 3M Jet Melt 3796 adhesive pellet will be auto issued to the dealers. It will be the dealer’s responsibility to order
the door latches for this campaign and you MUST enter the VIN number of each vehicle into the customer data field

in Unidial against each line item(refer to screenshot below). Failure to enter the VIN number will delay your order
being processed and despatched.
