Service Bulletin for Axle Flange Gasket Replaced with O-Ring. Daimler Trucks North America has released a new axle shaft to hub rubber O-ring (part number 11-30728-000) as a replacement for the paper gasket (part number 11-14418-000). The new O-ring will provide better sealing and is reusable. It is quicker and easier to use compared to the paper gasket, because using a paper gasket requires cleaning the hub when the axle shaft is removed.

General Information
Daimler Trucks North America has released a new axle shaft to hub rubber O-ring (part number 11-30728-000)
as a replacement for the paper gasket (part number 11-14418-000). The new O-ring will provide better sealing
and is reusable. It is quicker and easier to use compared to the paper gasket, because using a paper gasket
requires cleaning the hub when the axle shaft is removed. Most ConMet aluminum hubs have a groove at the
end of the hub, where the O-ring can be installed. The O-ring is backwards compatible with those hubs that
have a proper groove. See Table 1 for compatible hub bill of material (BOM) numbers, and Table 2 for
compatible hub part numbers. The fastener torque values for this module remains the same.

Replacement Procedure
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.
2. Remove the wheels. For instructions, refer to Group 40 of the of the applicable workshop manual.
3. Remove the axle shafts. For instructions, refer to Group 35 of the of the applicable workshop manual.
4. Remove and discard the gasket. Clean the axle shaft to hub mounting surface.
5. Locate the O-ring groove at the end of the hub. See Fig. 1.

6. Install the O-ring in the groove. When properly seated, the outer surface of the O-ring should appear slightly
outside the hub surface. See Fig. 2.

8. Fill the hub with oil of appropriate grade. For instructions, refer to Group 35 of the applicable workshop
manual.
9. Install the wheels. For instructions, refer to Group 40 of the of the applicable workshop manual.
