Reason for this Quarantine Notice
Aston Martin is pleased to announce a new software for the Head Unit (HU) which includes the introduction of Apple
CarPlay.
Do the workshop procedure that follows to update the HU software.

Workshop Procedure
CAUTIONS:

CONNECT THE AMDS 2.0 EQUIPMENT TO AN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY WHEN YOU DO THE
PROCEDURE THAT FOLLOWS. IF THE LAPTOP BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE
UPDATE, THE UPDATE CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MODULE.
YOU MUST CONNECT A BATTERY CHARGER TO THE VEHICLE BEFORE YOU DO DIAGNOSTIC
PROCEDURES. IF THE VEHICLE BATTERY VOLTAGE DECREASES DURING THE PROCEDURE, THE
SOFTWARE UPDATE CAN FAIL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MODULE.

Notes:

Make sure that the AMDS 2.0 software has updated to the latest version. The AMDS 2.0 software will
need a good Internet connection (minimum broadband speed of 2 Mbit/second) to make sure that
the software is updated correctly.
A high output battery charger (minimum of 80 A) is necessary to meet the demand of the radiator
cooling fan. The battery charger must also be compatible with Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) type
batteries.
You will need a USB device that has a minimum of 3.4 GB storage space to do parts of this software
update procedure.
Make sure that the USB device does not have files on it from other software updates.

Make sure that there are no other files from
previous updates on the USB device.

4.

Copy the extracted files on to the USB device.
(refer to Figure 1).
Note: Make sure that the files are copied to
the top level of the USB device. Do not copy
the files into a subfolder.

Place the vehicle key in the space (A). (refer to
Figure 2).

Set the ignition to ON but do not start the engine.

7.

Connect the Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) to the vehicle with the Diagnostic Link Cable (DLC).

8.

Start the AMDS 2.0 software and, if necessary, update to the latest version.

9.

In AMDS 2.0 click the “Special Apps” button
(refer to Figure 3).

10. Select the “HU23” module then click the “OK”
button (refer to Figure 4).

11. Select ‘Read Engineering Mode’ (refer to
Figure 5).

12. Select ‘Activate Engineering Mode’ (refer to
Figure 6).
Note: The HU will start again.

13. Check Engineering mode is active (refer to
Figure 7).

14. Disconnect the (VCI) from the vehicle and shut down AMDS 2.0.

15. Install the USB device into a vehicle USB port.
Note: Make sure that there are no other USB devices connected to USB ports in the vehicle.
16. In the Head Unit home screen, go to the
‘System’ icon, but do not select. (refer to
Figure 8).

17. Press and hold ‘Enter’ on the Control Dial for a minimum of 6 seconds. The screen will display engineering mode.
Note: If engineering mode is not displayed, it may not be activated. Check the parameter using AMDS 2.0 and
repeat this process.
18. Select ‘6. Update’ (refer to Figure 9).

20. The HU will go into ‘Bootloader active’ mode.
The software version number will be shown.

21. Select ‘Start’ to begin the update. (refer to
Figure 12).
CAUTIONS: SWITCH THE IGNITION ON
EVERY 15 MINUTES TO KEEP POWER
SUPPLY TO THE HU WHEN YOU DO THIS
UPDATE. IF YOU DO NOT, THE UPDATE
PROCESS WILL NOT COMPLETE
CORRECTLY.
DO NOT REMOVE THE USB DEVICE WHEN
YOU DO THIS UPDATE. IF YOU DO, THE
UPDATE PROCESS WILL NOT COMPLETE
CORRECTLY.

Notes: Push left on the control dial to change
selection.
The display will show which part of the
software is being downloaded. Ignore all
messages during this update.
The update will take approximately 40
minutes.
22. When the update has completed and the icons display on the screen, remove the USB device from the vehicle.
23. Connect the Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) to the vehicle with the Diagnostic Link Cable (DLC).
24. Start the AMDS 2.0 software and, if necessary, update to the latest version.
25. In AMDS 2.0 click the “Special Apps” button
(refer to Figure 13).

‘Connect’ icon is shown. (refer to Figure 24).
