RV ENTRY DOOR REMOVAL AND SHIPPING
BLOCK INSTALLATION AND ALIGNMENT

Purpose

This document provides the steps to remove, reinstall and align an RV entry door for motorized and towable

units.

Moving parts can pinch, crush or cut. Keep clear and use caution.

Required Resources

+ 1-2 people, depending on task
+ Cordless or electric drill or screw gun
+ Appropriate drive bits
+ Appropriate drill bits
+ Utility or putty knife or a plastic scraper
+ Caulk gun
+ Gunnable sealant Drip Cap
+ Putty tape or closed cell PVC foam tape
+ Fora laminate wall: 1" wide, Ye" maximum
thickness.
+ Fora stick and tin wall: 1" wide, Y%4" maximum
thickness.
+ #8 screws (quantity depends on size of
the door) - length must be long enough to
penetrate sidewall framing.
+ #12 screws - length must be long enough to
penetrate sidewall framing. (For motorized unit
entry door only.)

NOTE: For wood frame construction, do not
use self-tapping screws.

NOTE: After removing screws, replace with
similar type and size screw. Screws are
not provided in kit.

Preparation

Removal of Entry Door

Remove screws holding the drip cap onto the door and remove drip cap (Fig. 1).
If installed, remove snap trim on both left and right side of door (Fig. 1).
Remove all screws from outer frame.
Remove the threshold. (This is the small thin piece of trim on the floor that goes between entry door
frame threshold and the unit's floor.)
Remove outer frame side anchor screws around latch and friction hinges, if installed.

Using a utility or putty knife or a plastic scraper, carefully cut the caulk seal that goes between sidewall
and outer frame.
From the exterior of the unit, open the door and pull outwards on the outer frame to break the outer
frame flange seal that seals between the backside of the outer frame flange and the unit's sidewall.
NOTE: On stick and tin units, pay extra attention and take care when removing door. Do not let the outside
metal skin come away from the wood frame.
8. Fully remove door from unit's rough opening.
9. Completely remove and clean off any remaining putty tape or caulk residue from outer frame and side
wall.
10. When re-installing the door, make sure that three spacer blocks (Part #237252 of Kit #709983) are
installed in the door on latch side between inner frame and outer frame at top, middle and bottom
(Fig. 2). Also, make sure that one spacer block (Part #210599 of Kit #709983) is installed on the latch
side along the very bottom of the door (Fig. 2).
NOTE: Use a little silicone to temporarily hold the bottom spacer block until the door is set.

11. Make sure that the door latch is fully latched while leaving the deadbolt disengaged.

Installation

Exterior Frame Installation

Steps 1-8 of the installation must be performed
with the door assembly in the closed position.
Step 9 must be performed with the door
assembly in the open position.

1. Install sealant tape around back side of the
screw track frame. LCI recommends using
putty tape or closed cell PVC foam tape:

+ Fora laminate wall: 1" wide, Ya"
maximum thickness.

+ For a stick and tin wall: 1" wide, 4"
maximum thickness.

NOTE: Excessive putty tape or foam tape in
the plunger opening may restrict full
engagement of the latching mechanism.

2. Make sure that the door is sealed along
the bottom, either on the lip of the
opening or the edge of the floor.

NOTE: The deadbolt should be disengaged at
this point.
3. Set the door in the wall opening so that
the bottom edge sets flat on the floor and
the hinge side is flush against the opening.

NOTE: If the door is offset to the latch side, the
plunger may hit the side wall framing
and not engage completely.

4. Install a #8 screw in the hole nearest the
bottom hinge (Fig. 3A). Install another #8
screw in the hole near the bottom of the
latch side (Fig. 3B).

NOTE: After screws at locations A and B in
Figure 3 are installed, verify the bottom
of the door is flush with the bottom of
the outer frame to make sure spacer
blocks are present. If the door is
hanging down, open the door carefully,
making sure the door does not tip out,
and reinstall a spacer block. Close the
door carefully and continue with the
installation.

Install a #8 screw in the hole near top hinge (Fig. 3C).

Make sure that the door sets evenly in the frame and that the frame on the latch side maintains a 3/8”
gap. Install a #8 screw into a hole near the top of the door on the latch side (Fig. 3D).

Install the next four #8 screws in alphabetical order (Fig. 3E-H).

Install #8 screws in remaining pre-drilled holes on the door frame.

NOTE: Each pre-drilled hole in the outer frame should be filled. Do not use additional screws.

NOTE: Screws must be installed straight on the latch side of the door. Screws installed at an angle will
cause the door frame to twist and may prevent the door from opening properly. This can also result
in latch damage.

NOTE: On stick and tin units, install screws at the ridges of the metal siding first, then valleys.

9. Remove all spacer blocks on the entry door after the door is installed.

NOTE: Remember the spacer block (Fig. 4A) on the very bottom of the door.

Interior Frame and Hinge Installation - Motorized Only

NOTE: For doors with friction hinges or struts, be sure to read those sections later in this manual.

1. With entry door open, install four #12 screws (Fig. SA-D).
2. Install one #12 screw in each hinge on the third leaf (Fig. 6A). There are four hinges per door. Screw
length must be long enough to penetrate sidewall framing.

NOTE: Figure 5 is the catch of the door, Figure 6 shows the hinges. The hinge leaves attached to the door
are hidden for clarity. Entry door and screen door are also hidden for clarity.

NOTE: After installing the door, minor adjustment of the screen door may be necessary to achieve proper
Operation.

nap Trim and Drip Cap Installation

If applicable, install snap trim (Fig. 7A). Snap trim is installed from the outside in. Match the long leg of
the snap trim to the long leg of the door frame.

Install drip cap overlapping the snap trim (Fig. 8).

Secure with #8 screws in pre-drilled hole locations. Screw length must be long enough to penetrate
sidewall framing.

Run a bead of gunnable sealant on the bottom of the threshold (Fig. 9) along the entire width of the
door. Do not leave any seal voids at the corners (Fig. 9A and 9B).

Run a bead of gunnable sealant around the remaining edges of the door frame to completely

weatherize the door.
