Measure

It has been identified that compromised camshaft cover seals can disturb the
distribution of vacuum inside the engine. This has an effect in the rate of oil
returning through the scavenge pumps to the oil tank where the level sensor is
reading the oil level.

As aresult of this condition, the maximum allowable quantity of engine oil (8 litres)
could have been filled in the engine while the oil level indication still display low after
an oil level check.

= If you receive a McLaren 720S vehicle with an oil level concern, please carry out KA-
01225 first. If after KA-01225 has been completed you are still unable to achieve a
good engine oil level indication (maximum engine oil quantity of 8 litres has been
filled) follow steps 1 to 7 below.

= If you are unable to achieve good engine oil level indication after an annual
service or after a repair that required an engine oil drain and refill, please
follow steps 1 to 7 below.

1. Order anew pair (2) of camshaft covers - one for either bank.

Part numbers to order:
14FA262CP - ASSY CAM COVER LH
14FA263CP - ASSY CAM COVER RH

2. Perform acontrolled engine oil drain as per ‘SIS DA-RM-O5F003-00-001 -
Drain/fill - engine oil’

3. Remove the original camshaft covers with the engine in place inside the
vehicle.

4, Install the new camshaft covers with the engine still in place, taking care
not to dislocate the camshaft cover seals during the installation procedure.

Follow SIS operation: DA-RM-O5FO01-01-008 - Remove/Install camshaft
cover

Care Point: Pour the oil into the oil tank slowly to avoid formation of airlocks
which can temporarily overflow the engine oil into the CCV pipe inside the oil
tank causing contamination.

5, Perform a controlled engine oil fillas per ‘SIS DA-RM-O5F003-00-001 -
Drain/fill - engine oil’. Start by filling 5 litres of engine oil initially.

Care Point: Any engine oil level measurement attempt must be carried out as
per ‘SIS DA-RM-O5FO03-00-002 - Check engine oil level’.

6. Engine oil temperature must have reached 90° C for correct
measurement.

7. \ncrease the oil amount inside the engine by filling 0.5 litres at a time until
you achieve good oil level indication. Do not fill any more than 8.0 litres of
engine oil into the system.

8. If the engine oil level is now correct but smoke from the tailpipe is present
any excess oil should be cleared through a vehicle test drive. If the smoke
persists after this, please contact Technical Support.

9. If the engine oil level is correct and there is no smoke from the exhaust, no
further action is required.
