The owners of the coaches affected by this field campaign will be advised by a letter
indicating the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of each applicable coach.

Read this entire procedure before beginning work.
Use Safe Shop Practices at All Times.
To avoid personal injury:
a. Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn. Safety glasses and
protective gloves are required for working with DEF Fluid.
b. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
c. Ensure that both the front and the rear wheels are chocked.
d. Position the ENGINE RUN and ENGINE START switches on the engine
compartment remote control box to the OFF position.
e. Allow enough time for components to cool down prior to working in the engine
compartment.

A/C Compressor Belt Replacement

1.0 Description
Customer complaint:
Motor Coach Industries (“MCI”) has become aware that A/C compressors on certain
J4500 coaches are making excessive noise and vibration.

Cause:
The A/C compressor belt drive system may result in vibration transferred to the coach
frame, possibly resulting in noise and passenger discomfort.

Corrective action:
MCI recommends owners of the affected coaches have the following procedure
performed as soon as possible to replace the A/C compressor belt.

4.0 Procedure
Open the engine door using the latch behind the curbside service door.

Rotate the lever
counterclockwise

Use a ratchet strap or MCI tensioner compressor tool, P/N: 20-13-6675, to clasp the AC
belt tensioner. Remove and discard the A/C belt.
Remove and discard

Spring is under compression and in tension.
To prevent personal injury, use caution while using ratchet.

Remove and discard the double groove belt on the AC compressor.

5.0 Verification
Use the belt alignment tool to verify alignment of AC compressor pulley to the pulley on
the crankshaft following the instructions in the maintenance manual section 16A-2.

6.0 Field Change Program Conditions:
The parts required for this change will be supplied without charge.
A “MCI Field Change Program Verification Form” needs to be submitted for each VIN
affected. Photocopy the attached “MCI Field Change Program Verification Form” as
required for the number of affected coaches in your fleet.
This program will end on September 16, 2021.
