WARRANTY EXTENSION PROGRAM - This document is the notice to dealer parts and service managers, advising them of the Warranty Extension on the Occupant Detection System Sensor Pad to fifteen (15) years with unlimited mileage, starting from the date the vehicle was first put into service.

Kia
Motors America, Inc. is extending the warranty coverage for the front passenger side Occupant
Detection System (ODS) Sensor Pad on 2011-2015 MY Sorento vehicles, manufactured from
10/24/2009 through 12/17/2014, to fifteen (15) years with unlimited mileage, starting from the
date the vehicle was first put into service. The ODS Sensor Pad is designed to detect the presence of a
properly seated front passenger and determine if the passenger’s front air bag should be enabled (may
inflate) or not. The ODS Sensor Pad can become damaged from liquids being spilled repeatedly onto
on the
the seat. If this occurs, Kia’s system is designed to illuminate the airbag warning light
instrument panel, and advises the driver to have the system inspected and repaired. The passenger’s
front airbag is a low risk deployment airbag that complies with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
208. Despite being a low risk deployment airbag, if the airbag warning light is illuminated and the
vehicle continues to be driven without being repaired, the front passenger airbag will deploy in a frontal
impact regardless of whether the seat is occupied or not.
Please note this is not a service campaign that requires mandatory repair for all eligible
vehicles. Unless the vehicle exhibits the airbag warning light illuminated due to ODS Sensor
Pad concerns, the front passenger side ODS Sensor Pad should not be replaced under this
warranty extension program.
For the inspection and repair procedures, please refer to TSB BOD205 on the Kia Global Information
System (KGIS) at www.kiatechinfo.com. The Warranty Bulletin describing this warranty extension will
be posted on www.kdealer.com during the week of September 29, 2020.
Kia will notify owners of the Warranty Extension starting September 29, 2020. Owners will be
advised on how to check the airbag warning light to ensure airbag system is functioning properly and
asked to review the warnings in the Occupant Detection System (ODS) section of owner’s manual and
on the backside of the vehicle’s sunvisor label. Owners will also be reminded of the following:

DO NOT seat a child under the age of 12 in the front passenger seat.
DO NOT place any electronic device on or near the seat cushion as it may defeat the proper
functioning of the ODS.
DO NOT place sharp objects on the front passenger seat as they may damage the ODS, in
which case, the Sensor Pad will not be covered under this extended warranty.

including but not limited to warranty claim information.
