SUBJECT VEHICLES: Certain 13MY-16MY COE (Cab Over
Engine) 195 and 195h trucks equipped with a J05 engine
Note: Refer to the appropriate Vehicle Identification Number
in the warranty system to determine vehicle eligibility.

OVERVIEW:
The seal structure of the dosing valve of the DEF Injector may be
inadequate. With an inadequate seal, water or DEF may enter
inside the coil of dosing valve from the seal, causing the DEF
Injector to be inoperative. For vehicles built before the improved
part was introduced into production, the DEF injector will be
replaced with an improved one.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
• Read and understand all instructions and procedures before
you begin the work.
• Read and follow all NOTICES and WARNINGS set forth in this
publication. These alerts help to avoid damage to
components, serious personal injury, or both.
• Apply the parking brake firmly and confirm parking brake
activation.
• Turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition
switch.
• Always wear safety glasses to protect your eyes.
• Place wheel chocks in front of and behind all the wheels to
prevent the vehicle from moving.

VEHICLE PREPARATION:
1. Park the vehicle on a flat, level and solid surface. Confirm the engine is
stopped, the ignition switch is in the off (LOCK) position, and the key is
removed.

2. Apply the parking brake. Chock all of the wheels.

Repair Procedure:
WARNING: Hot engine coolant and a hot exhaust system can
cause serious burns and other injuries. To avoid serious
burn injuries, make certain that both the engine and the
exhaust system are cool and at ambient air temperature
before beginning this repair procedure.
1. When the engine and exhaust system are cool, locate the DEF injector
on the rear of the exhaust system below the passenger side frame rail.

2. Place a bucket under the DEF injector to capture any loss of
coolant. Remove the 2 coolant lines connected to the DEF
injector.

3. Remove the DEF supply line to the DEF injector and
disconnect the electrical connector.

4. Remove the 3 nuts securing the DEF injector to the exhaust
and retain for reinstallation. Remove and discard the DEF
injector.

5. Install the new DEF injector using the 3 nuts removed in the
previous step. Tighten the nuts to the specified torque.
Specified Torque: 6 lb-ft (8 Nm)

6. Connect the DEF supply line to the DEF injector and connect
the electrical connector.

7. Connect the 2 coolant lines to the DEF injector.

Single Cab Models
8A. Release the cab lock, and raise the cab. Proceed to Step 9.

Crew Cab Models
8B. Lower the seat back from the upright position. Pull up the
rubber floor cover under the passenger seat. Then unfasten the
latches that retain the passenger seat to the floor and fold the
passenger seat back and center console forward. This will allow
access to the engine from the right side. Proceed to Step 9.

Both Single Cab and Crew Cab Models
9. Remove the radiator cap. Fill the vehicle’s cooling system
with approved Hino Genuine Coolant. Reinstall the
radiator cap.

Single Cab Models
10A. Lower the cab and engage the cab lock.

Crew Cab Models
10B. Fold the passenger seat down. Fasten the latches that retain

the passenger seat to the floor. Fold the rubber floor cover down.
Return the seat back to the upright position.

FINAL INSPECTION:

To complete this emissions recall, review and confirm the
following:
• The engine coolant level is full in the radiator and coolant
reservoir
• DEF injector fasteners have been tightened to their specified
torque
• With the engine running, no coolant, DEF, or exhaust leaks
are present
• No warning lamps are illuminated with the engine running
