Spare parts requirements for rear-axle final drive
Information:
Due to different software versions used during production of the rear-axle final drive, there is
no guarantee that the software of the new final drive will match the vehicle software on model
year L (2020) vehicles.
Remedial
Action:
Check the part number of the new rear-axle final drive and also install a new servo motor if necessary.
Following installation, teach the rear-axle final drive with new servo motor as described under Technical
Information 'Replacing servo motor and adapting rear-axle final drive'.
Information
Once the PIWIS Tester test software version 39.900.000 becomes available (probably from week
48/20), the procedure described in the TI (Technical Information) will no longer be necessary. For
spare parts requirements in the event of repairs, proceed as described in the Workshop Manual, see
Workshop Manual '373519 Removing and installing automatic transmission (with electric motor)'.

Connect and switch on battery charger.

Connect the PIWIS Tester to the vehicle and switch on the PIWIS Tester.

Establish operational readiness.

Start diagnostics.

Select the 'Engine electronics (DME)' control unit in the control unit overview.

Select the 'Replace servo motor (clutches)' function in the 'Maintenance/repairs'
menu and perform the procedure according to menu guidance.

Select the 'Clutch slip function test' function, select 'Delete clutch fault' and perform the
procedure according to menu guidance.

Then, select the 'Adapt transmission' function and perform the procedure according to
menu guidance.

The specified sequence (6.1 - 6.3) must always be observed in order to ensure that the rear-axle final
drive is taught correctly.

Read out and erase fault memory.

End operational readiness and disconnect the PIWIS Tester and battery charger from the vehicle.
Information
After adapting the rear-axle final drive, the electric motor must be re-calibrated.
• To do this, accelerate to at least 60 km/h (38 mph)
• Then, maintain an overrun phase for at least 1 second
The electric motor is calibrated during the overrun phase.
Once calibration is complete, the vehicle speed restriction in overrun is lifted immediately. The "Reduced
speed" warning message in the instrument cluster is reset after switching the ignition off and on again
(terminal 15 change).
