Symptoms
The most common cause of high voltage on a Prevost
coach is the
Delco Remy alternators with the boost regulator installed. The boost
regulator is used to allow the PRIME alternator management system
to shut off the charging. However the unintended side effect is the
alternator sensing circuit does not receive actual battery voltage.
Instead, the boost regulator’s internal resistance causes a loss of 0.5
to 1.5VDC on the alternator sensing circuit. This causes the
alternator(s) to increase the overall battery system voltage to 28.729.7V in order to regulate this sensing circuit at 28.2V. In a couple of
cases, the boost regulator connection was worse and raised the
system voltage over 30V.

Repair Instructions
If the coach has Delco-Remy alternators, remove the boost regulator and replace it with a boost regulator jumper.
This will connect true battery voltage to the alternators at all times. It will disable the PRIME alternator management
and force the alternators to charge all of the time the engine is running. The boost regulator p/n 560629 is installed in
the rear electrical box. The jumper is p/n 0610187 and plugs into the same connector.

If the coach doesn’t have the Delco-Remy alternators, or if the boost regulator is already replaced with the jumper,
verify the battery condition. If the high side batteries have any shorts or less internal resistance than the low side
batteries, the charging amperage applied at the 24V connection will not be shared evenly between the high side and
low side batteries. This will cause low side batteries to be over charged, raising only the 12V system voltage.
NOTE: Volvo
9700 coaches don’t use the boost regulator because they don’t have alternator management strategy.

La cause la plus fréquente de haute tension sur un
autocar Prévost est les alternateurs Delco Remy avec le
régulateur de boost installé. Le régulateur de boost est
utilisé pour permettre au système de gestion des
alternateurs PRIME d’arrêter la charge. Toutefois, l’effet
secondaire involontaire est le circuit de détection
d’alternateur ne reçoit pas la tension réelle de la batterie.
Au lieu de cela, la résistance interne du régulateur de
boost provoque une perte de 0.5 à 1.5VDC sur le circuit
de détection d’alternateur. Cela provoque l’alternateur (s)
d’augmenter la tension globale du système de batterie à
28,7-29.7V afin de réguler ce circuit de détection à 28.2V.
Dans quelques cas, la connexion de régulateur de boost
était pire et a augmenté la tension du système au-dessus
de 30V.

Si le véhicule a Delco-Remy alternateurs, retirez le régulateur de boost et remplacez-le par un cavalier de régulateur
boost. Cela permettra de connecter la vraie tension de la batterie aux alternateurs en tout temps. Il désactivera la
gestion de l’alternateur PRIME et forcera les alternateurs à charger tout le temps que le moteur est en marche. Le
régulateur de boost p/n 560629 est installé dans la boîte électrique arrière. Le cavalier est p/n 0610187 et se branche
sur le même connecteur.

Si le véhicule n’a pas les alternateurs Delco-Remy, ou si le régulateur de boost est déjà remplacé par le cavalier,
vérifiez l’état des batteries. Si les batteries latérales hautes ont un short ou moins de résistance interne que les
batteries latérales basses, l’ampérage de charge appliqué à la connexion 24V ne sera pas partagé uniformément entre
le côté élevé et les batteries latérales basses. Cela entraînera les batteries latérales basses d’être surchargés,
soulevant seulement la tension du système 12V.
Notez que les véhicules Volvo
9700 n’utilisent pas le régulateur de boost parce qu’ils n’ont aucune stratégie de gestion

Causa posible
La causa mas comun de alto voltage en un bus Prevost
son los alternadores Delco Remy con el regulador de
refuerzo instalado. El regulador de refuerzo se utiliza
para permitir que el sistema de gestion del alternador
Prime apague la carga. Sin embargo, el efecto
secundario no deseado es que el circuito de deteccion
del alternador no recibe el voltaje real de la bateria. En
cambio, la resistencia interna de los reguladores de

Instrucciones de reparación
Si el bus tiene alternadores Delco-Remy, retire el regulador de refuerzo y reemplacelo con un Puente de regulador
de refuerzo. Esto conectara el voltaje real de la bateria al alternador en todo momento. Deshabilitara la gestion del
alternador PRIME y obligara a los alterndores a cargarse todo el tiempo que el motor este funcionando. El
regulador de refuerzo # de parte 560629 esta instalado en la caja electrica trasera. El Puente # de parte 0610187 y
se conecta al mismo conector.
