I have a freightliner p4 next gen Cascadia with a dd13 in it 2019 109000 miles and customer brought in for a

belt squeal and couldn't reproduce the the noise road tested unit and found the squeal after getting hot got

back to shop and found it wasn't the belt its coming from the engine somewhere in the vicinity of the fuel filter

housing only happens at 800 to 900 rpms I have no codes at first it would turn over for about 3 seconds and

then start up and after road testing it takes about 7 or 8 seconds to start so I pulled the valve cover and don't

see no visible damage anywhere ran engine with valve cover off and could see no possible culprits (this isn't a

fuel injector chirp by no means) anyone had this problem

VIN?

Did you remove the belt and verify the noise was still present? Is the noise by frame mounted filter housing or

engine side filter housing? Fuel injector leakage does not always sound like a chirp. I would perform cutout test

and operate engine at same RPM range to see if noise is still present. Air in fuel, cracked injector, missing heat

isolator, doubled up heat isolators, loose injector hold downs all could be a possibility.

we just had an issue here with noise at engine, DD13GHG17, first tech tough it was HPFP, other tech check

closely and found noise coming from p/steering pump, pump replaced and noise gone.

We have a HPFP failure metal thru the system.

Like James mention , metal in fuel is pretty common on these new DD ENGINES , I would check the tanks with

a magnet for metal , pull the fuel filters and see what you have both on the filter and in the bowl

go on PSL and follow instructions for metal in fuel and see that you have to install in frame fuel filter too.

We have had around 14 HPFP failures in the past month, the STEP-2-GO pumps are more sensitive to fuel

contamination. The new STEP-2-GO+ pumps have been pretty reliable so far from what I am hearing.
