Summary
Some 2020 Escape/Corsair vehicles equipped with an 8F24, 8F35 or 8F40 transmission may exhibit an unable to engage park condition with an illuminated powertrain malfunction (wrench) lamp and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P07E4 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) memory. There will also be a shift system fault warning message displayed and the electronic parking brake will be automatically applied when park is requested. This condition may be caused by an incorrect underhood section of the transmission park manual release cable or due to the underhood section of the transmission park manual release cable not in the proper stowed position. Service Procedure
1. Using a borescope, verify the underhood transmission park manual release cable part number. The part
number label is located on the cable under the battery tray. Refer to the parts catalog to verify the
correct part number. Does the transmission park manual release cable have the correct part number?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 2.
(2). No – replace both sections of the transmission park manual release cable. Refer to Workshop
Manul (WSM), Section 307-05. Proceed to Step 4.
2. With the vehicle in the key on engine off (KOEO) mode and the brake pedal pressed, fully actuate the
transmission park manual release cable to the override position (which should activate a cluster
message stating "Park not available apply park brake before exiting") and release the transmission park
manual release cable. Make sure the transmission park manual release cable handle cover is
reinstalled. Make sure to pull the cable straight out, do not pull at an angle. Refer to Workshop Manual
(WSM), Section 307-05. Does the shift system fault warning message disappear?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 4.
(2). No – proceed to Step 3.
3. Disconnect the transmission park manual release cable from the transmission lever. The lever may
move slightly when disconnecting the transmission park manual release cable. Does the shift system
fault warning message disappear?
(1). Yes - replace both sections of the transmission park manual release cable. Refer to WSM, Section
307-05. Proceed to Step 4.
(2). No - refer to the WSM for normal diagnostics. Repair is complete.
4. Using the appropriate Ford
scan tool or equivalent, clear the DTCs.
