Overview
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide a summary of
the content changes for the 2021 Model Year Camaro.

SS 1LE (RPO A1Y) – 10-SPEED
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (RPO MI2)
(U.S. and Canada Only)
Traditionally the 1LE track package (RPO A1Y) on the
SS model comes equipped with a 6-speed manual
transmission. Beginning in the 2021 model year, the SS
with the 1LE track package will offer the option of a
10-speed automatic transmission.
Important: The 10-speed automatic transmission fluid
should be changed after every 15 hours of track usage.
While driving in Sport mode and Track Mode, if tap shift
has not been activated, the transmission determines
when the vehicle is being driven in a competitive
manner. The transmission may remain in a gear longer
than it would in the normal driving mode based on
throttle input and vehicle lateral acceleration. If there is
a rapid reduction in throttle from heavy throttle position
at high rpm, the transmission will maintain the current
gear up to near redline rpm. While braking, the
transmission will automatically downshift to the next
lower gear keeping engine speed above approximately
3,000 rpm. If the vehicle is then driven for a short time
at a steady speed, and without high cornering loads,
the transmission will upshift one gear at a time, until
10th gear. After shifting to 10th gear, or coming to a
complete stop, the transmission will return to normal
Sport Mode shifting.
Caution: Manually shifting (aka tap-shifting) the
10-speed transmission during track events can lead to
slower track times and may induce higher transmission
temperatures.
Unique “Track Mode” shift pattern: The automatic
transmission is programmed with a special Track mode
shift pattern that will command upshifts at higher RPMs,
and will rev match all downshifts when coasting to a
stop. This is different from the “regular” SS model
equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

Upshifts will typically occur around 3000 rpm, and
downshifts will be commanded around 2000 rpm under
“normal” driving conditions.

Copper Free Brakes
Due to Copper Free legislation passed for California
and Washington State (which goes into effect for
vehicles produced on/after January 1, 2021), changes
are being made to the brake systems to be compliant
with the Copper Free legislation. The overall rollout of
copper free brake systems will be based on the
vehicle’s specific brake RPO. More detail will be
provided in a future Emerging Issues telecast viewable
through the Center of Learning site. The following is a
summary of the rollout.
Important: Copper Free and Non-Copper Free
components (calipers, pads, rotors, etc) are NOT
interchangeable.

Brake RPO JL9 – equipped on LS and some LT
Models:
Will roll out with copper free brakes across all 50 states
with start of production for the 2021 model year.

Brake RPO J55 – equipped on LT1 Model
(RPO 1LZ):
Will roll out with copper free brakes across all 50 states
with start of production for the 2021 model year.

Brake RPO J55 – equipped on some LT Models:
A copper free solution is only available for vehicles with
brake RPO J55 and without RPOs Y4Q and A1X. No
copper free solution is available for the V6 and Turbo
1LE models (RPO A1X). LT models equipped with RPO
J55 (excluding LT1 Model - RPO 1LZ) and RPO Y4Q
(Track Cooling Package) built on/after January 1, 2021,
will be restricted from sale in California and Washington
State.

Brake RPOs J6G & J6M – equipped on SS and
SS 1LE Models:
Will maintain a copper system. Any 2021 Camaro
equipped with brake RPO J6G or J6M built on/after
January 1, 2021 will be restricted from sale in California
and Washington State. Beginning with the 2022 model
year, Camaro SS and SS equipped with the 1LE track
package (RPO A1Y) produced for California and
Washington State will use brake RPOs J6H&BCD.
Camaro SS and SS equipped with the 1LE track
package (RPO A1Y) for all other 48 states will continue
to be produced with brake RPO J6G or J6M.

Brake RPO J6H – equipped on ZL1 & ZL1 1LE
Models
Will maintain a copper system for model year 2021.
2021 Camaro equipped with J6H brakes and produced
on/after January 1, 2021 will be restricted from sale in
California and Washington State. Beginning with the
2022 model year, Camaro ZL1 & ZL1 1LE models
produced for California and Washington State will use
brake RPOs J6H&BCD. RPO BCD is the indicator that
the vehicle is equipped with Copper Free brake
components. Camaro ZL1 and ZL1 1LE models for all
other 48 states will continue to be produced with RPO
J6H (without RPO BCD).

Infotainment 3
Model Year 2021 Camaros are updated with the next
version of Infotainment 3 (3.6). This version applies to
all three radio levels low (RPO IOR), Mid (RPO IOS)
and High (RPO IOT). The benefits of the next version of
Infotainment 3 include:

Personalization (RPOs IOS & IOT only)

The infotainment system can be personalized to
match customer preferences (favorites,
downloaded apps and more); quickly recalling
settings when the vehicle is started with the
customer’s personal key fob.
The Personal Profile is cloud-based, so it can be
accessed in other Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or
Cadillac vehicles equipped with a compatible
infotainment system.

Phone Pairing
•

How to pair a phone to the vehicle:
⇒ Manual Bluetooth Pairing: Tap the PHONE
icon on the home screen, then “Phones,” and
then “Add Phone” to begin the pairing process,
following the prompts on the infotainment
screen and on your phone.
⇒ Pair using Voice Recognition (IOS & IOT
only): Press the PUSH-TO-TALK button on the
steering wheel and then say, “Pair Phone” at
the prompt to initiate the pairing process.
• Control the system using Voice Recognition after
pairing (IOS & IOT only).

Audio
The AUDIO app icon provides access to an intuitive
interface that seamlessly integrates the vehicle’s audio
sources: AM radio, FM radio, SiriusXM® (if equipped)
and music streamed from a compatible paired or
USB-tethered device.
• Streamlines access to the vehicle’s available
audio sources
• Save stations as Favorites for one-touch access
• Integrates with steering wheel controls for
hands-free operation

Apps (IOS & IOT only)
Using the APPS icon on the home screen, you can
download apps to your infotainment system. You may
need to swipe from left to right on the Home screen to
find the APPS icon and downloaded apps.
• Access to a catalog of available apps provides a
more personalized, relevant in-vehicle experience.
• Available apps have been designed specifically
for in-vehicle use to help provide a seamless
experience.

Android Auto
Android Auto™ allows you to use some of your
compatible phone’s apps and functionality through the
vehicle’s infotainment display or with voice commands.
• Get directions, check traffic and listen to music.
• Access your calendar, including times, addresses
and contact information.
• Android Auto can be used wirelessly, leaving your
phone in your purse or bag.

Apple Carplay
Apple CarPlay™ allows you to use some of your
compatible phone’s apps and functionality through the
vehicle’s infotainment display or with voice commands.
• Get directions, check traffic and listen to music.
• Access your calendar, including times, addresses
and contact information.
• Apple Carplay can be used wirelessly, leaving
your phone in your purse or bag.

Navigation (RPO IOT only)
If equipped, embedded Navigation provides an intuitive
way to navigate to your destination. When embedded
Navigation is enhanced with available Connected
Navigation services on properly equipped vehicles, you
can access real-time traffic updates, up-to-date Points
of Interest (POIs), local fuel prices, parking options
and more.
• Provides an intuitive interface patterned after
smartphones.
• Integrated real-time traffic (requires Connected
Services trial or paid plan) helps avoid traffic.
• Save destinations as Favorites for one-touch
access.
• The system can be controlled using Voice
Recognition with casual language commands.

OnStar®

600W – Engine Cooling Fan

The OnStar app is another way to access the Chevrolet
Connected Services and OnStar Safety & Security
plans, including your available 4G LTE Wi-Fi® Hotspot,
in addition to the hard button controls to reach an
OnStar Advisor on the vehicle’s overhead console.
• Offers another option for accessing Chevrolet
Connected Services and OnStar plans.
• Provides the interface for accessing the available
4G LTE Wi-Fi® Hotspot.
The following functions of the newest version of
Infotainment 3 are considered normal and no repairs
should be attempted for comments about these
functions:
• Presets grey out while driving: However, if
pressed, the preset will function. Greying out the
preset is done to attempt to reduce distracted
driving.
• AM low band static (convertible only) –
between 530 and 800 kHz bands: This is only
experienced in rural areas where the received AM
broadcast signal is already weak (fringe areas)
due to greater distances from the broadcast
transmitter(s).

The vapor pressure sensor relocates to inside the
fuel tank for all models. Note, the 2021 fuel tank
does not back service to previous model years.
Engine cooling fans are updated to support
required feedback to the Powertrain ECU thru LIN
communication. The ECM can read actual fan
speed to compare with commanded and diagnose
a faulty fan. The 350W engine cooling fan,
equipped in most cars with the LGX engine, has a
new controller which is separate from the motor.
For the other engine cooling fans, the controller is
built into the motor. The control circuit moves to a
new output at the ECM. Refer to SI for updated
schematics. Below is a summary of engine cooling
fans based on engine RPO and options:

Other Changes
LT1 Model (RPO 1LZ)
Uplevel lighting package (RPO WRS) will be available
on the LT1 Model (RPO 1LZ). The lighting package
includes: RPOs (T4F)/(T61) Unique FRT & RR Exterior
Lighting. For 2021 model year, the Redline package is
also now available on the LT1 model (RPO 1LZ). Note,
the RS Fascia requires the outboard cooler blockers.

Fuel Tank Zone Module
The FTZM is being introduced on vehicles equipped
with LTG Engine. The FTZM replaces FPPM. Changes
from previous 20 MPa fuel system to 35 MPa fuel
system. The pressure is related to how fast the motor is
spinning. Both FTZM and FPPM operate to the set
point for the specific vehicle/engine and the pressure is
determined by the SW in the ECM. The FTZM handles
the fuel level sensor and has output valves. While the
FPPM only controls the power to the pump. FTZM has
more to diagnose than just power to the pump, so it has
more diagnostics built in. Diagnostics will be handled
through the ECM. As a result the LTG engine will use
the E88 ECM instead of previous E80 ECM. SI will be
updated with the new DTCs related to the FTZM.

LGX Engine Continuous Improvement
Changes
New coils, coolant temp sensor (common with CSS
engines), oil pump suction pipe assembly (plastic), oil
pump chain pin (material change). The new coils and
oil pump chain pin will be back serviceable to prior
model years.
