Airbrake Contamination Cleaning

SITUATION :

Quality Engineering at McLaren Automotive have released
software that allows you to carry out a sequence to operate the
valves in the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) to free trapped
debris.

PROCEDURE :

Please follow the procedure outlined in this document.

1. Carry out a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) read of the Powertrain Chassis Control Unit (PCCU). If any of the
DTC’s logged, are in the list below proceed. If the DTC’s logged are not in the list below raise a technical request
for assistance. DTC logged must be entered into the work package.

C101A94 Airbrake not holding position.
P130164 Clutch 2 cut-off valve failure.
P130464 Cooling pressure fault.
P122892 Clutch 1 overpressure.
P123B64 Line pressure error high.
P123864 Line pressure too low.

Care Point: Ensure vehicle lift is in the lowered position before reprogramming the PCCU. Suspension Displacement
Sensor Calibration will fail to complete if the system is not fully lowered.
Care point: If the PCCU is updated then other modules may also require updating. Refer to Service Information
Bulletins 11 M 059 Module software update protocol to platform 11 or 11 M 052 Module software update protocol to
platform 10.5, if the ECM also requires updating.
2. If PCCU software level is pre 11M0938CP.21 then proceed and update the PCCU If the PCCU is at the correct
software level or later, please proceed to the next step.
Care Point: During the Airbrake Contamination Cleaning sequence, warning messages for, Transmission Limp-Home
and Airbrake Fault will be displayed, these can be ignored.
Care Point: Do not carry out consecutive Airbrake Contamination Cleaning sequences, as this can cause damage to
the solenoids and valves inside the DCT.
Care Point: During the following routine the Airbrake will be operated, ensure it is clear from obstructions.

3. Select Airbrake Contamination Cleaning (1), followed by the arrow button (2).

4. Ensure the preconditions are met and select OK (3).

5. The following screen will be displayed and the routine will run for fifteen minutes (4).

6. Once the routine has completed the following screen will be displayed (5), proceed and select the back button (6).

7. Switch the ignition off.

Care point: Do not restart the vehicle until the clutch oil and filter has been replaced.
8. Refer to AA-RM-04G01-01-017 - Remove/install filter - Clutch fluid. Collect a 250ml sample of clutch oil and label
bottle with the gearbox serial and VIN number, this may be requested for analysis. Drain the clutch oil through a
paper filter to capture any debris, and attach a picture of the debris to the work package.
9. The following sequences must be carried out:o

Carryout Airbrake Calibration and Bleed.

o

Carryout Dual Clutch Calibration.

10. Select Programme VIN (7), followed by the arrow button to proceed (8).

11. During the road test deploy the airbrake a minimum of three times using the Aero button
12. Recheck for DTC’s in the PCCU, if any of the DTC’s have re-logged raise a technical request for further
assistance. If no DTC’s have re-logged no further action is required.
