Work Instructions
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.
2. Disconnect the batteries.
3. Open the hood.
4. Remove the battery cable access (BCA) box cover. The BCA box is located on the right side of the cab
front wall.
5. Locate the type I high-current circuit breaker in the BCA box. See Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.

6. Remove the two mounting nuts and remove the type I circuit breaker.
7. Install the new type III circuit breaker in the BCA.
8. Install and tighten the two mounting nuts to a maximum of 49 lbs·in (556 N·cm)
Manually Resetting the Type III Circuit Breaker
The type III manual reset circuit breaker comes with a label noting where the reset hole is located and how to
reset the breaker using a blunt tool. See Fig. 3.

Troubleshooting a Type III Circuit Breaker
Due to current space constraints within the BCA, the type III circuit breaker does not have a visual indicator
showing when the circuit breaker is open and needs to be reset.
In addition, the most common use of the high-current trailer cord is for trailer battery charging. This use can
make it difficult to determine when or if the type III circuit breaker needs to be reset; when the cord is
connected, trailer battery voltage can be present on one side and vehicle voltage can be present on the other.

Battery Charging
Unplug the high-current trailer cord from the trailer before checking to see if the type III circuit breaker is in an
open or closed state.
With the trailer cord disconnected and vehicle voltage supplied to the circuit breaker, both studs on the circuit
breaker should show voltage when the circuit is closed and not in need of a reset.
With the trailer cord disconnected and vehicle voltage supplied to the circuit breaker, if only one stud on the
circuit breaker shows voltage, then the breaker has failed or needs to be manually reset.
