Towards that end, MINI is extending the limited emission-related warranty for the:

Engine Radiator’s Environmental Air Catalyst (EAC) Sensor

On the above-referenced B46M PZEV/SULEV engine vehicle to:
•

15 years/150,000 miles as determined by your vehicle’s original in-service date.

This “component-specific” limited emission-related warranty extension applies to defects in materials or
workmanship. This coverage is subject to the same vehicle eligibility requirements, limitations, and exclusions
that apply to the MINI New Passenger Limited Warranty.
Note: If your B46M PZEV/SULEV engine equipped vehicle referenced above is currently registered in the
State of California (CA) or a State that has fully adopted the State of California PZEV/SULEV regulation (CT,
ME, MD, MA, NJ, NY, RI and VT), under the terms of this regulation, the standard emissions-related coverage
for your Engine Radiator’s Environmental Air Catalyst (EAC) Sensor is 15 years/150,000 miles.
During the extended limited warranty coverage period (Eligible vehicles that are beyond the 4 year/50,000 mile
MINI New Passenger Limited Warranty coverage), non-emission related engine radiator defect issues are not
covered.

This is notice of a “limited warranty extension.” This is not a notice of a Recall or Service Action.
If a repair to this component is required, please contact your nearest authorized MINI dealer in the United
States or Puerto Rico to schedule an appointment. Your authorized MINI dealer will determine the vehicle’s
eligibility and review the scope of repairs that are covered by this component-specific limited warranty

After vehicle inspection and diagnosis, eligible repair work will be performed by the authorized MINI dealer in
the United States (including Puerto Rico) free of charge.

2. How do I determine if my vehicle falls under the State of California PZEV/SULEV
regulation?
For the eligible MY 2015 and 2016 MINI vehicles listed above that are registered in CT, ME, MD,
MA, NJ, NY, RI and VT, these states have fully adopted the State of California (CA) PZEV/SULEV
regulation. The Engine Radiator’s EAC Sensor on your vehicle is then covered under the terms of this
emission-related regulation for 15 years/150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
For the remaining eligible MINI vehicles that are not registered in the above states (including Puerto
Rico), the Engine Radiator’s EAC Sensor on your vehicle is covered under the terms of this componentspecific emission-related limited warranty extension for 15 years/150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
3. What is the purpose of the Engine Radiator’s Environmental Air Catalyst (EAC) Sensor?
As the vehicle is driven, ground-level ozone (a "secondary" colorless and highly irritating pollutant gas
that forms when a chemical reaction occurs under certain environmental conditions) is turned into
oxygen as it passes through the catalytic coated surface area of the engine’s radiator.
The EAC Sensor confirms the presence of an ozone reducing catalytic coated engine radiator in the
vehicle. The EAC Sensor is there to prevent a catalytic coated radiator that requires replacement in
conjunction with performing some other repair from being removed and replaced with a standard noncatalytic coated engine radiator.
4. What is the specific issue related to the EAC Sensor?
During specific conditions and over time, an accumulation of corrosion on the EAC Sensor may lead to a
failure and/or the EAC Sensor may not properly monitor the presence of the catalytic coated engine
radiator.
5. How does this affect my vehicle?
An EAC Sensor operational issue or failure will activate the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL/Check
Engine Light). This problem will not affect engine performance and/or cause any vehicle drivability
issues.
6. What should I do if I notice this condition (MIL) in my vehicle?
If the MIL is illuminated and your vehicle is operating normally, please contact an authorized MINI dealer
in the United States (including Puerto Rico) to have your vehicle inspected and, if necessary, repaired.
7. How will my vehicle be repaired to address an issue with the EAC Sensor?
If it is determined that the EAC Sensor is a cause for the MIL, your vehicle’s engine radiator will either be
replaced or your vehicle will receive a one-time software update as required, free of charge, under the
