Instructions 26X Vision Grey Tank Replacement
Repair time: 5 hours
You will need to disconnect the plumbing at (3) areas in the motorhome. This will allow you to drop the
holding tank so it can be removed.
• Under the bed
• Inside the bath/bedroom wall
• In the bathroom sink cabinet
1. Under the bed
Access the plumbing under the bed by removing the mattress and the top bed base panels. Remove the
screws and set aside for re-use.
A. Loosen the inverter enough so it can be moved to the side to help access the plumbing.
B. Remove the cover from the power center box. Unfasten the box from the floor.

C. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, disconnect
the power cord from the box. Push the power
cord down through the floor. The power cord
must be disconnected to allow the removal of
the old tank and the installation of the new.

D. Using a reciprocating saw cut the plumbing pipe
approx. 3 inches from the top of the elbow.
Remove the plumbing elbow from the tank by
screwing it out. You may need to use a channel
lock to turn the pipe section from the tank. Be
careful not to damage the pipe section as it will
be reused.

2. Bath/bedroom wall
To access the plumbing you will need to remove the wall panel from the bedroom side of the
bath/bedroom wall.
A. Remove the TV and TV bracket from the wall.
B. Remove all trim from the top and corners of the wall.
C. Cut the seam tape on the panel seams. Pulling off the tape may damage the wallboard

D. Carefully pry the wallboard loose starting at the corner of the wall. Completely remove the
first panel. Pry the second panel loose starting in the center of the wall. Pull the panel out far
enough to gain access to the plumbing. The corner of the panel can remain fastened.
E. Locate the grey tank vent. It will be the second pipe in when facing the rear of the unit. Using a
reciprocating saw, cut the grey vent pipe approximately 4 to 6 inches above the floor. Turn the
cut off piece out and remove (it is threaded and screwed into the tank). You may need to use a
channel lock to turn the pipe section from the tank. Be careful not to damage the pipe section
as it will be reused.

3. Bathroom sink cabinet
Access the plumbing in the bathroom sink cabinet by removing the (2) side and (1) bottom interior
panels. Set aside the panels and screws for re-use.
A. Cut the plumbing elbow above the hole in the floor so the elbow will drop below.
B. Cut off the wye piece so you can turn the plumbing pipe from the tank. Cutting the piece
will allow you to turn the pipe easier.
C. Unscrew the plumbing piece from the tank.

4. Removing the Baggage door and compartment
A. Remove the lens from the baggage compartment light. Remove the (2) screws from the
light. Disconnect the light by cutting the wires on the back of the light. Set aside the light
for re-use.

B. Remove the screws from the inside perimeter in the baggage compartment.
C. Using a box cutter (or similar tool) and/or heat gun, “break” the seal on the outer
perimeter of the baggage door. You may need to gently pry the baggage door from the
sidewall of the unit. Be careful not damage the fiberglass sidewall.
D. Remove the baggage door.
E. Remove the baggage compartment. You may need to bend the compartment in to get it
through the opening.

5. Making the baggage door opening larger
You will need to make the door opening larger to accommodate the new door and compartment and
to aid in removing and adding the holding tank.
A. Using the new baggage door, butt the top tightly against the top opening edge. Using a
grease pencil, mark the edge of the door (using the inside rim of the door) at the (latch) side
and bottom. This will help you to mark the opening area that will be cut out.

B. Using a straight edge and tape measure, mark the sidewall where it will need to be cut. The
opening size should be 19-1/2” (high) 19-3/4” (wide). Measure the new door and your
marks to verify the marks are accurate. Double check the cut line with the dimensions of
the door before cutting.
C. Using a reciprocating saw, cut along the top and bottom door frame(s). Use a sabre saw to
cut along the cutting marks on the remainder of the door opening. The bottom will not be a
straight cut. The offset will require fiberglass repair later in the process.
D. Check the fit of the door by inserting it into
opening. Trim any excess to secure the fit.

6. Disconnecting the tank
A. Loosen and pull all plumbing from the tank. All top plumbing connection(s) should already
be disconnected from the previous step of cutting the plumbing from the inside of the unit.
B. Remove the tank bracket(s) and supports.

C. Cut the monitor panel and the heat pad connection wires. Remove the heat pad from the
tank.

6. Removing the tank
Once all connections have been removed from the tank, you will need to prepare the compartment for
tank removal. You will need to cut out portions of the cross member supports highlighted below.

A. Using a 6” angle cutter*, start cutting the passenger side support tube. Make the first cut
along the bottom where the tube connects with the cross member.
B. Using a 6” angle cutter*, start cutting the passenger side support tube. Make the second cut
along the top of the tube (against the floor).
* A reciprocating saw can be used. You will need a sharp blade and may need to replace
it. An angle cutter will make the cuts much easier.

C. Using a 6” angle cutter*, cut the bracket so that it is even with the previous cut to allow the
new tank to be installed. Remove sharp edges to prevent damage to the new tank during
installation.

D. To remove the old tank, make sure all connections have been removed from the tank. The
tank should move freely in the compartment. You will need a person on both sides of the
unit. Have someone on the driver side of the unit to assist by pushing the tank. Have the
other person on the passenger side of the unit pulling the old tank through the expanded
baggage door opening. You may need to push in on the sides of the tank to get it through the
opening.

7. Prepping the compartment for the new tank.
Once you have removed the old tank, you need to make additional cuts to allow for the new tank.
Locate the angle support on the driver side frame rail.

A. Using a 6” angle cutter*, cut the support as close to the frame rail as possible.
* A reciprocating saw can be used. You will need a sharp blade and may need to replace it.

B. After all cuts have been made, use a die cutter to remove any sharp edges that may damage
the new tank during installation.

C. Cut an 18” x 18” piece of paneling. Using 1” pan head screws, install the panel to the area
where the first support tube was cut. Position the panel so that it creates a barrier to any
sharp metal edges remaining from cutting the tube.
8. Installing the new tank.
The tank will come with all holes pre-drilled.
A. Install the tank through the passenger side baggage door opening that you used to remove
the old tank. The tank notch (off set) should be on the driver’s side of the unit (installed
through the opening in the wall first) with the longest part of the tank against the floor.
You may need to have someone push in the side of the tank while you are pushing it
through the door opening; to get the tank through.
B. Add the heat pad to the top of the tank. Clean the area on the tank with alcohol prior to
adding the heat pad. Remove the pad backer and adhere heat pad to the tank.

C. Cut (2) sticks approximately 42-1/2”. Prop up both ends of the tank to help hold it in place
for the remaining installation steps.
D. Secure the tank in place by installing the tank (angle) bracket to the floor (with 2-1/2” self-
tapping screws) on the driver’s side of the unit 5-1/2” in from the sidewall. Finish securing
the tank in place by installing the other bracket to the floor on the passenger side using the
2-1/2” self-tapping screws.

E. Reconnect the heat pad and monitor panel wires. Strip the wire insulation at each end
approximately 3/8” to 1/2” from the end. Use bell caps to connect the wiring to the heat
pad and to the monitor panel wires.

9. Re-connecting the plumbing on the exterior
A. Install the plumbing from the tank to the dump valve per the configuration shown below.
Use plastic pipe adhesive to secure the new pipe in place.

B. Install strap to hold termination line to the rear of the valve.
10. Re-connecting the plumbing on the interior
From the interior of the unit, check the holes where the original plumbing went below the floor. If the
holes do not align with the holes in the tank, you will need to trim the holes in the floor (using a
reciprocating saw) until the plumbing pipes can be installed into the tank.
A. Installing the bath plumbing. Put sealant on the end of the new elbow (that goes into the tank).
Screw the elbow into the tank. Put adhesive on the elbow and the connecting pipe extending
from the plumbing wye. Connect the elbow to the pipe. Add sealant around all fitting
connections.

B. Remove any staples in the cabinet panels or on the cabinet cleats. Re-install the (2) side panels
and the bottom panel in the cabinet.
C. Installing the vent pipe plumbing. Using the piece removed from the old tank, add sealant
around the end that is installed in the tank. Screw the pipe back into the tank coupler.
D. Put adhesive on the other end of the piece and install it into the vent pipe in the wall. Place
sealant around the pipe connections.

E. Remove all staples from the wall panel and trim. Re-install the wall panel and trim. Install seam
tape at the panel seams. Re-install the TV brackets.
F. Installing the plumbing in the bed area. Use the pipe that was removed from the old tank. (Put
sealant on the end that will be installed in the tank. Screw the pipe into the tank coupler.
Using pipe adhesive, install the pipe fitting to connect the two pipes together. Add sealant
around all new pipe connections.

11. Re-installing the electrical connections.
A. From the exterior floor side of the unit, you will need to drill a new hole for the power cord
(use ¾” drill bit). Be careful not to drill the hole on the outside of the bed frame.
C. Reconnect the power cord to the electrical box. Black wire to (hot) positive (+). White
wire to negative (-). Green to ground.

D. Re-attach the electrical box to the floor. Put the cover back on. Re-attach the inverter to
the floor.
E. Re-install the plywood piece on top of the bed frame.

12. Finishing the baggage door opening.
A. Remove Styrofoam from around the baggage door.
B. Install wood pieces around the top, side and bottom area of the door opening where it was
previously cut out. You may need to use a hammer to carefully tap the wood pieces in place.

14. Installing the Baggage Compartment and Door
A. Install the baggage compartment/door combination through the opening. Secure around the
door frame and along the top of the compartment.
B. Connect the wires for the compartment light and install the light.
