Summary
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that when attempting to start vehicle "No Fob Detected" message is displayed. Technician will find the Key FOB works and the vehicle will start with the key FOB is placed in the pocket. Technician will need to replace the Key FOB with the Key FOB with Passive Entry Passive Start.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition / Concern
A customer may comment that all of their fob functions work properly
, opening trunk, lockingor
unlocking doors, but all of the passive features are inoperative, when attempting to start vehicle
"No Fob Detected" message is displayed. If the fob is placed in the pocket the vehicle will start.
Recommendations / Instructions
It is possible the vehicle may have been shipped with or a dealer mistak
enly added a "non-PEPS"
fob to a "PEPS" (Passive Entry Passive Start) vehicle. This can be confi
rmed by obtaining the part
number from the body of the fob behind the key blade and comparing to the Electronic P
arts
Catalog (EPC).
An alternate method would be to remove the battery cover and battery from the fob. With the blade
of the key at 12 o'clock, look at theprinted circuit board. A non-PEPS fob (right) will have words
stamped on the circuit board at the 3 o'clock position. A PEPS fob
(left) will have a stamping at the
6 o'clock position.
Replace the effected fob as required.
NOTE: Both PEPS and non-PEPS fobs are available with 5 buttons.
