Customer statement / workshop findings
Check engine warning lamp illuminated on Drivers Instrument Panel.
DTC’s stored within the Engine Control Module (ECM)

Technical background
Internal failure of Inlet or Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster may result in Malfunction Indicator Lamp illumination and DTC’s stored within the ECM.

Production change
Modified locking pin within the Camshaft Adjuster introduced 08.09.2016.

Measure
Note: A DISS query must be raised prior to commencing with this TPI.
With a confirmed Complaint of Malfunction Indicator Lamp illumination and one or more of the following DTC’s stored: -

•

Check the date code marked on each of the four Camshaft Adjusters, any found to be prior to 8/9/2016 (Date code 09T08) - Figure 1 should be replaced. When changing a Camshaft Adjuster the relevant Camshaft Control Valve should also be replaced.

•

Camshaft adjusters later than date code 8/9/2016 (09T08) do not need to be changed – Figure 2 - unless the fault code stored is
specifically for that particular Camshaft Adjuster.

As a guide, use the applicable sections from Repair Group 15 – Engine cylinder head, valve gear – 4.0L V8 – Camshaft timing chains
– To remove and fit
The Elsa Pro procedure must be strictly adhered to, ensure all parts and fixings are replaced as instructed Always
refer to the electronic parts catalogue for the latest parts information

When replacing the camshaft adjusters check and confirm the specification of ALL four camshaft mating faces IMPORTANT: Should the
camshaft faces be smooth as shown in Figure 3 all four camshafts should be replaced

As a guide, use the applicable sections from Repair Group 15 – Engine cylinder head, valve gear – 4.0L V8 – Camshaft timing chains
– To remove and fit.

Should the camshaft mating faces be machined patterned as Figure 4, there is no requirement to replace the camshafts

IMPORTANT: Should the camshafts be required to be replaced ensure all associated components are to specification as per Elsa Pro guidelines
