Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail delivery and whenever an affected
vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.
Affected Vehicles

Hyundai is conducting a Service Campaign related to the software update to the Fuel Cell control Unit (FCU) and Hydrogen storage
Management Unit (HMU) and includes logic revision for the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON related to the FCU and HMU.
The affected vehicles include:
• Certain 2019 – 2020MY NEXO (FE)
Hyundai is initiating this action to ensure the quality of its vehicles and the continued satisfaction of Hyundai customers.

Description

This service campaign is to provide information on the software update related to the Fuel Cell control Unit (FCU) and Hydrogen storage
Management Unit (HMU) on certain NEXO (FE) vehicles. This update includes logic revision for Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
related to the FCU and HMU.

Service Action
Reservation – Always check the Vehicle Information Screen in WebDCS for open campaigns and recalls, and
advise the customer on time requirements.
Readiness – Review this announcement and any accompanying FAQs with all Service and Parts staff including
Reservationist/BDC. Also, complete all applicable training, check your reservation capacity settings (you can set separate
capacities for every recall/campaign), confirm email addresses for campaign appointments, and that you have all necessary
tools, campaign parts and shop equipment as needed.
Reception – Always check the Vehicle Information Screen in WebDCS for open campaigns and recalls, and print a
copy for technicians. Provide SRC or an alternative vehicle, as needed. If a customer has declined the campaign,
note this on the repair order and request the customer’s signature next to the statement.
Repair – Always plug in the GDS before starting the repair. Make sure to complete an MPI on all vehicles and Quality
Control your work.
• Prior to the update:
o Ensure that the GDS-M is charged above 50% and has the most recent software version
o Ensure the vehicle’s 12 volt battery is fully charged
o Ensure the vehicle’s 12 volt battery does not become discharged during the update by turning off all lights
and accessories including heater/air conditioner, fan, audio, heated seats, rear defroster, etc.
o Do not leave the headlight switch in auto mode

Set the POWER button to the ON position. To set the POWER button to the ON position, press the button
two times without pressing the brake pedal.
During the update:
o Do not start the Fuel Cell
o Do not turn OFF the POWER button during the update
o Do not disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or GDS-M during the update
Before proceeding with the FCU update, please first check the FCU version on page 2 of TSB.
The manual update should be performed only when the automatic update fails.

Return – Review all completed campaigns and repairs to answer any customer questions. Also, schedule the customer’s
next service.
Reconnect – Follow up for customer satisfaction.
