SUBJECT:
FUSO FE GAS engine diagnosis for low oil pressure warning lamp illumination

MODELS:
FEC7T, FECZT, FEC9T

DESCRIPTION:
Certain FUSO FE Gas vehicles equipped with a 6.0 liter L96 gas engine may experience a complaint of low oil pressure
indication on the instrument panel. Verify the complaint with a mechanical gauge by removing the oil sender located on top of
the engine behind the intake manifold.
If this situation occurs, it is imperative to triage and repair the vehicle quickly in order to maximize uptime for the
customer. MFTA’s goal is to have the vehicle repaired and returned to the customer within 24-48 hours. Please
follow the steps below to triage and repair the vehicle
Step 1
• Check for codes, check oil level and inspect for external leaks.
• Install a manual oil pressure gauge, start the engine and record the engine oil pressure at idle.
• Drain the oil through a strainer, remove and cut open the engine oil filter and inspect for metal debris.*
• Open a Technical Assistance Request (TAR), provide documents and photos and await TSC direction.
* It is important to use an oil filter cutting tool to ensure no
filter housing metal debris contaminates the filter material.

Step 2
• If instructed by the TSC, inspect #1 and #3 main bearings and #2 and #5 rod bearings and journals and upload
photos to the TAR.
• The TSC will evaluate the damage and direct the repair.
Step 3
• If instructed to replace the engine assembly, ensure that the engine is removed from the chassis in preparation for
replacement engine arrival.
• Replace the radiator with a new assembly and flush the engine oil cooler and lines of metal contamination.
• Install the replacement engine assembly and affix the engine information plate found on the intake manifold to the
replacement engine.
• Perform the engine pre-lube procedure, perform crank sensor teach-in and replace engine sticker on information plate.

Below are the parts required to perform either the oil pump or engine assembly replacement. Order the replacement
part(s) via next day shipment in order to minimize the downtime for the customer. MFTA’s Product Support Managers
will reimburse dealers for next day shipping expenses to procure the parts should this failure occur.

FAILED PARTS HANDLING:
Oil pump replacement
Retain the failed parts following Warranty Update Bulletin 17-001 “Policy Change - Warranty Parts Retention, Storage
and Claim Reimbursement”.
Engine assembly replacement
Retain the failed parts following Warranty Update Bulletin 17-001 “Policy Change - Warranty Parts Retention, Storage
and Claim Reimbursement”. Once the warranty retention period has expired, refer to Service Information Bulletin
20-004 for proper steps to destroy the failed engine assembly for scrapping.
