DESCRIPTION
This article is for adding additional protection to the driver's area of the bus to help mitigate the transmission of germs. In order to add
a protective stanchion and shield behind the driver's seat, see 2 options below.
Option 1--Removing first seat, relocating crash barrier and installing a stanchion with shield aft of driver
Option 2--Remove crash barrier aft the driver and install a stanchion with shield, and remove the seat cushion from first seat

Replacing/Altering the first seat on a CMVSS certified bus will not be allowed, it will require other changes. CMVSS requires
a set number of UCRA positions, which mist be located in the first rows of each side. Moving a UCRA seat will also have an
impact on seat spacing so it is strongly recommended that any dealer moving a UCRA seat to accommodate this barrier,
request a new floor plan and adjust accordingly. If ordering a new bus with this feature, a new floor plan will be required

surface, turn engine off, set parking brake, and install wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle
from moving in either direction.
To prevent personal injury and/or death, always wear safe eye protection and other PPE
when performing vehicle maintenance.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE:

1. Measure the distance between the first bolt of the crash barrier and the first bolt of the first seat, this measurement will be used
in the installation procedure step 1.

2. Remove seat bolts from Wall and Aisle side of first seat as shown in Figure 1.
3. Remove seat and save for future use or parts. Note: You may want to tag the seat with the vin for potential reuse.
4. Remove Aft of Driver Barrier bolts and barrier, see Figure 2 below. Barrier will be reused in installation procedure.

Wall side (item 4 - bolt, item 5 - spacer (if plywood floor), item 6 reinforcement)
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
1. Using the measurement taken in Removal Procedure step 1, place the removed barrier in position so that the barrier (first bolt
hole) is located forward of original seat 2 (first bolt hole), the same distance.
2. Take a marker/chalk and mark the location of mounting holes. Note: If any new seat rail mount holes are found to be within 1/2"
of an old seat mounting holes, the old seat mounting hole must be plug welded, ground smooth, and painted before proceeding
to next step.
3. Set the barrier to the side and drill new barrier mounting holes using a 7/16" drill bit in the seat rail and 1/2" in the floor

4. Position barrier over new mounting holes, then install the barrier mounting hardware and torque to 16-20 ft-lbs
5. Install carriage bolts in the remaining open holes in the floor. Note: bolt length may vary depending on floor sill location.
6. To start installing the new stanchion aft of driver, the location will be at the zero bow (bow in front of first window, figure 4) and
must be greater than 30" in front of the first seats SRP (see figure 3 below for defining location of SRP)

7. See figure 4 for illustration of correct mounting location of new stanchion

8. Sub-assemble the stanchion foot assembly as shown in Figure 5, and then the complete stanchion and install to the floor,
ceiling, and wall as shown in figure 4.

9. Install Lexan shield to the top of the stanchion using parts as shown in figure 6 below.

Option 2--Remove crash barrier aft the driver and install a stanchion with shield, and remove the seat cushion from first seat
REMOVAL PROCEDURE:
1. Remove Aft of Driver Barrier bolts and barrier, see Figure 2 above. Barrier can be saved for parts or future reuse.
2. Flip up seat cushion on first passenger seat to allow access to P clamps on forward bar, see Figure 7 below

3. Remove screws from P clamps and lift off the seat cushion. Save seat cushion for parts or future reuse.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
1. For holes left in floor from crash barrier, install carriage bolts.
2. To start installing the new stanchion aft of driver, the installation will be the same as in Option 1: Installation Procedure: Steps
