PCCB brake disc covers and air guides on the rear axle

Information:

The braking power of the PCCB braking system may not meet the driver's expectations in the
case of wet brake discs on the rear axle on the affected vehicles. This may be the case, for
example, during long journeys in rainy weather conditions. In this case, the customer must apply a
higher brake pressure for a short time in order to achieve the usual braking response.

Remedial
Action:

Replace the cover plates and brake air guides on the rear axle brake system with optimized versions to
improve wet braking behaviour.

Affected
Vehicles:

Only vehicles assigned to the campaign (see also PCSS Vehicle Information). This campaign affects 24
vehicles in North America.

Work Procedure: 1

Remove wheels on the rear axle  Workshop Manual '440519 Removing and installing wheel'.

Remove left and right PCCB brake discs  Workshop Manual '465319 Removing and installing rear
brake disc - section on "Removing"'.

3

Replace the left and right cover plates.

3.1

Remove installed cover plate  Cover for PCCB brake disc - old / new -1-. Remove
fastening screws  Cover for PCCB brake disc - old / new -3- and remove cover plate 
Cover for PCCB brake disc - old / new -1- for this purpose.

3.2

Install new cover plate  Cover for PCCB brake disc - old / new -2-. Install screws  Cover
for PCCB brake disc - old / new -3- and tighten in diagonally opposite sequence.
Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Note: replace centering screws N 10456004 to tightening torque 5 Nm as instructed.
