To Dealer,
We’ve no ced an unprecedented demand for A/C compressors which at mes has created a backorder
situa on. The majority of the compressors returned were analyzed and proven leak free. As you are
aware, there is Warranty Extension for Civic Condensers (Service Bulle n 19-091) for a leak problem.
This bulle n provides detailed informa on on how to use the Bosch ROBLD020 Dual Mode Refrigerant
Gas Leak Detector which should be used to confirm a leak at the compressor.
Using visual diagnos cs for compressor replacement does not always indicate a leak. Oil
contamina on on the compressor’s case or red dust around the clutch area is not confirma on of a
faulty compressor.
In addi on to following bulle n for using the Bosch detector, take a look at the following publica ons
to also help you in isola ng the leak:

When applying normal diagnos c prac ces, please take your me. Sniffer diagnos c tools are highly
effec ve, especially when used slowly. Recent tests indicate moving the sniffer over a suspect
component no faster than 10mm per second is recommended.
Ensure that when a sniffer is u lized, cooling fans, blowers, and shop ven la on isn’t blowing away
your evidence. Leaks can be very small and easily dispersed.
When adding dye to an A/C system, make sure to allow enough me to let the leak detec on dye to
fully circulate through the en re system, and defeat the “Eco” bu on.
