SITUATION
When Surround View is activated, the vehicle image displayed in the Central Information Display (CID)
contains inaccurate details.
Here are some examples of the inaccurate details* seen:

Bumper design is incorrect

Note: The Surround View can be activated by either selecting reverse gear or pressing the Park Distance
Control (PDC) button near the gear selector.
* The affected vehicles are equipped with the MGU head unit. Its sophisticated software bases the vehicle
image shown in the CID on the actual vehicle build specifications (e.g., exterior color, wheel design, body
style/M Sport, etc.).

CAUSE
Software in the Head Unit High 3 (HU-H3) based on Integration level S15A-20-03-5xx.

CORRECTION

Program the vehicle with ISTA 4.24.1x or higher (estimated availability July 2nd, 2020; pending verification).
Target I-level S15A-20-07-520 or higher

PROCEDURE
1. Read out the vehicle’s current I-level using AIR or the Key reader / ISPA NEXT application.
2. If the I-level is lower (older) than S15A-20-07-520, program the vehicle.
3. If the I-level is already at or higher (newer) than S15A-20-07-520, perform diagnosis with ISTA
4.24.1x or higher and complete the relevant test plans.
4. Reassess the vehicle.
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) when performing
programming.

Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units (RO and Claim Comments Required)
The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do
not have the latest software I-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this programming
procedure:

Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work (including performing the
IRAP Control Unit Recovery procedure first as required, refer to the SIB in AIR) under the
defect code listed in this bulletin with the applicable AIR labor operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments
section
For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:

When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim the applicable test plan and the
corresponding control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor
operations in AIR (including diagnosis with separate punch times).
Other Repairs
If other eligible and covered work is performed as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related
test plans, claim this work with the applicable defect code and the labor operations that are listed in AIR
(including diagnosis with separate punch times).
