Altec Industries, Inc. has developed a product improvement which relates to certain DC1317 and DRM12
Chipper Units.
Refer to SIL 751 for items covered under the warranty policy. Altec will supply necessary parts to correct
this condition.
In order to determine if your unit is affected by SIL 751, compare the serial number of your unit with the list of
affected units as described on the SIL. The product improvement can be performed by the customer or you may
contact Altec at 1-877-GO-ALTEC (1-877-462-5832) for further assistance.
At any time, you may contact Altec at 1-877 GO ALTEC (1-877-462-5832) with your unit’s serial number to
determine if there are any other outstanding notices.

Fuel Hose Inspection
Altec is committed to providing our customers reliable products from initial delivery throughout
the useful life of the machine.
Altec has discovered that some of the fuel hoses used on chipper engines do not meet the proper
specifications. While the fuel hose is not a safety concern, the hose does not meet the EPA permeation requirements per 40 CFR 1048.105. It is extremely important for the correct fuel line to
be installed to minimize emissions to the atmosphere from vapor permeation through the body
of the fuel line. Understanding the importance of this regulatory requirement, Altec and its customers will make a concerted effort to repair the units in a timely manner.
Altec requires that the fuel lines on each unit be inspected for the correct type. The inspection
must be completed at the next periodic maintenance interval but no later than 90 days after the
receipt of this SIL. Use the inspection procedure beginning on page 2.
If the hose is found to be the incorrect material, it must be replaced. Order the Hose Replacement
Kit, part number 991065413, by calling 1-877-GO ALTEC (1-877-462-5832).
This repair is covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customer’s warranty provider. Altec will perform the repair for free at an Altec
facility. If the customer, or the customer’s warranty provider performs the inspection and the
repair, a warranty claim must be submitted to be reimbursed for the cost of the parts and/or labor.
Altec will allow up to $180 for the inspection and labor to perform this repair. Call 1-877-GO
ALTEC (1-877-462-5832) to schedule the work to be done by an Altec service technician. Customers are responsible for the travel costs of an Altec Mobile Service technician if the technician
performs the inspection or repair at the owner’s location.

Inspection Procedure
Normal mechanic’s hand tools are required for this inspection. Read and understand all steps of
the instructions before beginning the procedure.
1. Park the chipper on a level surface and chock the
wheels. The chipper can be left attached to a vehicle
for stability.
2. Locate the two fuel hoses on the top of the fuel tank
(refer to Figure 1). One hose is the supply fuel hose
and the other is a fuel purge hose.

3. Each of the hoses will normally be covered with a
corrugated plastic shield. Remove any plastic tape or
plastic wire ties that hold the plastic shield in place on
the hose.
4. Pull the shield back to see the printing on the side of
the hose. The printing is on two sides of the hose.
5. Inspect the printing on the hose and determine which
condition occurs.

lettering on one side and SAE 30R14T2 XXXX (year of manufacture) in white
lettering on the opposite side (refer to Figure 2).
• Incorrect hose will have Continental FUEL/EMISSION 5/16" (7.9 mm) SAE J30R7 50
PSI WP (refer to Figure 3).

6. If the hose is correct (same as shown in Figure 2), complete and return the Inspection Sheet
on the last page to document completion.
7. If the hose is incorrect, order the Hose Replacement Kit, part number 991065413, and install
the kit no later than 30 days from the inspection.
8. Reposition the hose shield and secure it to the hose with tape or plastic zip ties.
9. Return the unit to service.
