NOTE: The result of receiving this repair instruction is because P008A-00 and P0087-00 fault codes are/were both
active at the same time.
NOTE: Before proceeding, please make sure that ALL electronic control modules are up to date and there are no
pending updates available.
NOTE: The new USA17 Emission Engines Secondary Fuel Filters have a “DEEP” groove end cap with a seal to fit
on the new Fuel Filter Housings. Previous filters had a “SHALLOW" groove end cap and will not fit nor seal properly
on USA17 Emission Engines Fuel Filter Housings. It is also possible that metal debris may be created when trying
to install the incorrect filter. The Secondary Filter is mounted in the forward position on the Fuel Filter Housing. The
Primary Filter is mounted behind the Secondary, or on the frame rail. USA17 Emission Engines require a 4 micron
Secondary Filter.

Repair Instructions
Fuel Filter, Replacement (One)
1. Clean around sealing area on fuel filter and housing.

2. Before removing the fuel filter, position a container under filter to catch any fuel that might spill. Remove the
fuel filter. Note: Fuel in the old filter must absolutely not be poured into the new filter. This kind of
contaminated fuel can damage the unit injectors. Special tools: 9996672

3. Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil and install the filter. Tighten according to the instructions on the filter.

4. Prime the fuel system by pumping the hand priming pump on the fuel filter housing until resistance is felt
indicating that the system is full of fuel.
5. Start the engine and carry out a fuel-tightness check.
6. Let the engine run for about 5 minutes to remove air pockets from the fuel system. Note: The engine speed
must not be increased; otherwise air can be pressed into the cylinder head, causing the engine to stop.
7. Use Guided Diagnostics to read and clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
