DESCRIPTION

Periodically, circumstances arise requiring operators to temporarily park a coach in storage.

Whether it is a few weeks or several months, sporadic out of service times or a full stop, Prevost

recommends following the guidelines in this document during times when:

•
The coach can be operated on a regular/weekly basis while in storage.
•
The coach will be in storage for an extended period of time without any operation.
•
The coach will return to service following an extended period of downtime.
The following recommendations are general in nature for all coaches but should be modified to

meet each customer requirements as needed.

PROCEDURE

DANGER

Park vehicle safely, apply parking brake, stop the engine. Prior to working on the vehicle, set the ignition

switch to the OFF position and trip the main circuit breakers equipped with a trip button. On Commuter

type vehicles, set the battery master switch (master cut-out) to the OFF position.

Lock out & Tag out (LOTO) must be performed during set-up, maintenance or repair activities. Refer to

your local procedure for detailed information regarding the control of hazardous energy.
PROPER STORAGE FOR OPTIMAL STARTUP

When a coach is going to be parked or put into storage for an extended period, the following steps

are recommended.

Change fluids depending on age and condition, check coolant strength with tester.

Replace if sediment present.

Drain all air tanks and accessory filter.

Make sure that the roof escape hatches and emergency exit windows are closed

latched.

Thoroughly clean the coach. Apply wax if possible.

Install moisture control canisters if needed in humid environments.

Plug areas where rodents can get in with steel wool, fiberglass insulation or dryer

softener sheets.

Inflate all tires to correct air pressure.

Add diesel fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank.

After parking the unit, before disconnecting all batteries, make sure they are fully

charged.

Drain the DEF tank if storing longer than six months.

Close all drivers and passengers sunshades.

Drain the lavatory waste and clean the tanks. Leave dump valve open for

ventilation.

Make sure that all external doors are closed and latched correctly.

Keep on-board battery charger plugged in or if not possible, trip circuit breakers

equipped with a trip button when vehicle is parked.

Check the fluid levels.

Start the coach for 30 minutes to circulate fluids and charge up the batteries.

Turn on the passenger HVAC system, run for 15 minutes in heat mode and then

15 minutes in air conditioning mode. Verify starting temperature and end

temperature.

Move the unit to circulate transmission fluid, rotate tires, lubricate the wheel seals,

and check the brakes.

Road test to operating temperature and highway speed if circumstances allow.

When parking, try to avoid flat spots on the tire. Make sure the tires will be in a

different position.
START UP RECOMMENDATIONS

CAUTION

Ensure all proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is worn prior to working on the vehicle.

IMPORTANT NOTE

After a coach has been parked for an extended period, an inspection of the unit is required to make sure

all items are intact and in good working order.

If operating a vehicle with biodiesel fuel, sample tank before starting.

Use the following guide to do a walk around inspection prior to start up.
