DESCRIPTION:
If a rim is found to have damages or corrosion during the Pre-Delivery Inspection / Service (PDI/PDS),
follow the instructions under Service.
SERVICE:
The normal procedure for new cars delivered at dealers is to inspect the vehicle for transportation
damages, and if a damage is found it should be reported directly towards the transportation company.
Transportation damages on the rims are usually located on the spokes and around the rim edge.
Factory might claim responsibility for some rim damages but only if these are located near the wheel
screws area, see example photo TJ 35404.jpg
If the rim damage is rejected by the transportation company, OR if corrosion is found underneath the
clear coat during the PDI/PDS, send a TIE Vehicle Report and include photos and details as described
below:
1. Overview of the whole rim.
2. Close-up picture of the damage.
3. Backside of the rim (including supplier stamping / casting identifications).
4. If possible, also include a photo of the bar code label attached on the rim (Note: tire needs to be
removed first).

Also include the following information:
1. Main problem: A) Defect in the alloy rim (metal), B) Defect in the paint or clear coat, C) Scratch/
damage, D) Corrosion.
2. Size / length of the damage / scratch.
3. Is the damage / scratch deep (through the paint / clear coat), OR is it a thin surface damage?
4. If a thin surface scratch, have the rim been polished in order to remove the scratch?
5. If damage has been rejected by the transportation company, please include their motivation for
rejecting the claim.
A minor manufacturing defect in the rim might still be accepted and possibly there is no need to replace
the rim (depending on location and size), in case of uncertainty send a vehicle report with photos.
If there is a major manufacturing fault, deep scratch, or corrosion, then replace the rim and send a
Vehicle Report with photos mentioned above (except approved transportation damages).

Please keep the rim for a week after the Vehicle Report was sent before scrapping it, it might be
requested to Volvo for analysis.
