RE: EFX Tridec Accelerator Pin Bearing Bolts Maintenance Schedule
Model: TK85EFX

We have identified on some units that the bolts holding the accelerator pin
bearing have worked loose over time. Your owner’s manual recommends these
bolts be checked after the first 10,000 KM/6200 miles or 2 months whichever
comes first and again every 100,000 KM/62,000 miles or annually whichever
comes first.
Please check these bolts and re-torque as necessary, correct torque of the bolts
is 410 ft. lbs. The attached Technical Service Bulletin outlines the procedure for
checking the bolts and re-torqueing. Please contact Trail King Customer Service

Below are the instructions for checking the torque in the bearing bolts on EFX
trailer models.
Locate the pin bearing bolts, found at the front of the gooseneck. (See below)

Put the truck and the trailer in straight-ahead position.
Put the parking brakes on both the truck and the trailer.
Using the steering remote: Steer both left and right to check if the bearing pin moves. During
manual steering, NO movement between the bearing pin and the turntable plate is allowed.
If there is movement the bearing pin and turntable plate, immediately take the trailer out of
service and contact Trail King Customer Service.
If there is no movement proceed with the procedures below to confirm the torque of each bolt.
Verify the torque of the four bolts shown in blue below. Torque should be 410 ft. lbs. for 10.9
grade bolts.

NOTE: Kingpin wedge may need to be relocated front/back for access to the bolts from the
bottom of the trailer. (As shown below)

Recommended using a 30mm socket and torque wrench for the nuts on top of the gooseneck.
Use a 12mm 1/2” drive hex socket to hold the bolt from the bottom. (This may require cleaning
paint from the hex of the cap screw.) If any bolts do not torque properly or are damaged
contact Trail King to purchase correct replacement bolts and nuts.
Add witness paint marks to the bolts, nuts, and plates on the top side of the gooseneck. This
will help verify any movement during future inspections. This should be inspected during daily
pre-trip inspections.
