Thermostat Replacement, Manual Transmission
1. Apply the parking brake and place the shift lever in neutral.
2. Remove all cables from ground (negative) battery terminals to prevent personal injury from electrical shock.
3. Use the coolant extractor to remove the coolant from the engine. An alternate method is to drain the coolant
into a suitable container using the drain hose.Special tools (if needed): DBT2V700, 9996049, 85112740
4. Loosen the clamp and remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator and suction out any remaining coolant.
5. Loosen the clamp and remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing.

6. Remove the bolts, the thermostat housing and the thermostat. Carefully clean the thermostat seat and all
cylinder head-to-thermostat housing mating surfaces.
7. Install the new thermostat. Note: Make sure that the rubber seal remains properly seated.
8. Position the thermostat housing to the cylinder head, install the bolts and tighten to specification. Refer to
Function Group 20, Specifications.
9. Install the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing and to the radiator. Position the clamps and tighten to
secure.
10. Using the coolant extractor, fill the cooling system with the recommended coolant. Special tools: DBT2V700,
85112740
11. Install all previously removed cables to the ground (negative) battery terminals.
12. Start the engine, check for leaks and proper operation. After shutdown, replenish fluids as necessary. Use Tech
Tool to check and clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC).

Thermostat Replacement, Automatic Transmission
1. Apply parking brake and place shift lever in neutral.
2. Remove all cables from ground (negative) battery terminals to prevent personal injury from electrical shock.
3. Use coolant extractor to remove the coolant from the engine. An alternate method is to drain coolant into a
suitable container using drain hose. Special tools: DBT2V700, 9996049, 85112740
4. Loosen clamps and remove upper intermediate coolant hose.
5. Remove coolant line and fan shroud support brackets.
6. Cut applicable cable ties and disconnect harnesses around thermostat housing.

7. Remove fasteners securing thermostat housing.
8. Remove housing and thermostat.
9. Clean the mating surfaces of the thermostat housing.
10. Install the thermostat and thermostat housing. Tighten fasteners to specification. Refer to Function Group 20,
Specifications. Note: Make sure that the rubber seal remains properly seated.
11. Connect the applicable harnesses and install cable ties at appropriate locations.
12. Install the coolant line and fan shroud support brackets. Tighten fasteners to specification.
13. Install the upper intermediate coolant hose.
14. Using the coolant extractor, fill the cooling system with the recommended coolant. Special tools: DBT2V700,
85112740
15. Install all previously removed cables to the ground (negative) battery terminals.
16. Start the engine, check for leaks and proper operation. After shutdown, replenish fluids as necessary. Use Tech
Tool to check and clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC).

1. Aplique el freno de estacionamiento y coloque la palanca de cambios en punto muerto.
2. Retire todos los cables desde los terminales negativos (tierra) de la batería para evitar lesiones personales
por descargas eléctricas.
3. Utilice el extractor de refrigerante para retirar el refrigerante del motor. Un método alternativo es drenar el
refrigerante en un contenedor adecuado usando la manguera de drenaje. Herramientas especiales (si es
necesario): DBT2V700, 9996049, 85112740
4. Suelte la abrazadera y retire la manguera superior del radiador y succione todo el refrigerante que quede.
5. Suelte la abrazadera y retire la manguera superior del radiador desde la carcasa del termostato.

6. Retire los pernos, la carcasa del termostato y el termostato. Limpie cuidadosamente el asiento del termostato y
todas las superficies de contacto de la carcasa del termostato con la cabeza de cilindros.
7. Instale el nuevo termostato. Nota: Asegúrese que el sello de goma se mantenga ubicado en forma correcta.
8. Coloque la carcasa del termostato junto a la cabeza de cilindros, instale los pernos y apriete según las
especificaciones. Consulte Grupo de funciones 20, Especificaciones.
9. Instale la manguera superior del radiador hacia la carcasa del termostato y hacia el radiador. Coloque
las abrazaderas y apriete para asegurarlas.
10. Con el extractor de refrigerante, llene el sistema de refrigeración con refrigerante recomendado.

11. Instale todos los cables que había quitado anteriormente a los terminales negativos (tierra) de la batería.
12. Encienda el motor, revise si hay fugas y un funcionamiento correcto. Después del apagado, reponga los
fluidos, si es necesario. Use Tech Tool para revisar y eliminar los códigos de diagnóstico de problemas (DTC).

7. Retire los sujetadores que aseguran la carcasa del termostato.
8. Retire la carcasa y el termostato.

10. Instale el termostato y la carcasa del termostato. Apriete los sujetadores de acuerdo a las especificaciones.

11. Conecte los arneses aplicables e instale las correas en las ubicaciones adecuadas.

13. Instale la manguera superior de refrigerante.
14. Con el extractor de refrigerante, llene el sistema de refrigeración con refrigerante recomendado. Herramientas
