Condition

Some customers may comment on water leaking into the rear cargo area, with water
evident on interior trim, the cargo area floor and/or water in the rear compartment well.
Sometimes water intrusion may lead to loss of chime and/or radio functions.

Cause

Correction

The cause of the condition may be open body seams or voids in body sealer in several
areas on the vehicle. Or the cause has sometimes been found to be unsealed bolt
threads or a mis-positioning of grommets.
Important: Repair or replace any water damaged trim or components as necessary.
Verify the condition, then identify and repair the leak path following the information
provided in the Service Information below.

Service Information
Checking the locations noted below, verify the
condition. Then as necessary, reposition/seal parts
and/or repair the leak path and apply the appropriate
sealant, referencing Body Waterleak Repair in SI.

Pinhole in Roof Drip Rail

Note: In some cases, larger voids have sometimes
been found in the same rear roof seam area noted
above. Test the roof panel seam line by following
the recommended steps below:

1. Lower the rear of the headliner to gain access to
the roof seam. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel
Replacement in SI.
2. Spray a soapy solution on top of the roof at the
seam line.
3. Using a long nose spray nozzle, spray air on the
bottom of the roof seam between the headliner
and roof.

4. If air bubbles are visible on the top of the roof
seam, repair using an appropriate body shop
sealant and if necessary, touch up with the
appropriate color paint.
5. Reinstall the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim
Panel Replacement in SI.
