PANORAMIC SUNROOF SLOW TO CLOSE AND/OR
ABNORMAL NOISE WHEN CLOSING

This bulletin provides the procedure to repair a panoramic sunroof that exhibits a slow to close
condition and/or abnormal noise when closing, on some 2017-2019MY Cadenza (YG) vehicles.
Follow the procedure in this bulletin to clean, lubricate, and replace the rear tilt levers to correct
the concern. DO NOT replace the sunroof assembly for this concern.

 NOTICE
Do not replace the sunroof assembly for this concern. Any associated claims for
sunroof replacement are subject to Warranty review and chargeback.

Panoramic Sunroof Rail Cleaning and Tilt Lever Repair Procedure:
1. Inspect the operation of the panoramic sunroof and confirm the customer’s concern
before conducting this repair.

 NOTICE
If the sunroof is inoperative, proceed to normal diagnosis, and once corrected,
inspect for the “slow-to-close” and/or “abnormal noise when closing” concern,
and apply this TSB as necessary.

2.

Remove the movable glass (A) by
referring to the “Body (Interior and
Exterior) → Panorama sunroof →
Movable Glass → Repair procedures”
chapter in the applicable Shop Manual
on KGIS.

 IMPORTANT
With the assistance of another
person, lift and remove the
movable glass from the vehicle.

CAUTION
Use caution not to scratch,
damage and/or break the glass
during removal.
3a. Lay the glass on a soft, flat protected
surface with the tilt levers (B) facing up.

3b. Remove the tilt lever(s) (B) retaining nut
(C) and replace the tilt levers on both
sides by referring to the application tilt
lever table below:

2.95 – 4.43 ft.lbs (4.0 – 6.0 Nm.,

Lightly coat the tilt lever shoes (B) using
the specified lubricant.

CAUTION
Failure to use the lubricant
specified on page 6 of this
bulletin may result in an
ineffective or repeat repair.
Do not use Kia Dampening
Grease (P/N UM011-CHA052), as
it is not compatible with the
grease used by the factory.

CAUTION
Failure to thoroughly remove
any old grease or foreign
material from the guides may
result in an ineffective or repeat
repair.

Re-install the movable glass (A) from
step 1 in the reverse order of removal.

Using a clean brush, remove any debris
in the roof rails by brushing out towards
the rear glass.

CAUTION
Use caution not to scratch,
damage and/or break the glass.

Using an air gun, blow towards the rear
glass to remove any remaining debris in
the roof rail.

CAUTION
Use caution not to scratch,
damage and/or break the glass.

8.

Using a clean brush, apply grease along
the inside of the roof rails.
Repeat procedure 3 times to make sure
there is sufficient grease application on
rails.

 NOTICE
Ensure the glass and all other
components contacted while
performing this procedure are
clean.
9.

Function-test the operation of the
panoramic sunroof, confirming the
customer’s concern is corrected and that
the one-touch open/close is functioning.

 NOTICE
If the one-touch open/close is
not functioning, follow the reset
procedure on page 5 of this
TSB.

Panoramic Sunroof Reset Procedure:
1.

Ensure the ignition is ON,the panoramic
sunroof, and roller blind are completely
closed.

2.

Fully depress and hold the sunroof
switch in the closed position and DO
NOT release it until the roller blind fully
opens and the sunroof glass vent
position opens (about 15-20 seconds).

3.

Once the vent opens, release the switch
for 1-second and fully depress and hold
the sunroof switch in the closed position
again until sunroof glass fully opens then
closes and the sunshade fully closes.

4.

Verify operation of the sunroof to confirm
reset procedure is successful.
