WARNING
Consider undeployed airbags to be dangerous and capable of deploying at any time. Before performing
any work on these systems, review all service literature and comply with the following warnings and
precautions. Unintentional or improper deployment of the airbag system can result in injury or death.
See section 46.07 Air Bag System in the Cascadia Workshop Manual.
• Carry undeployed airbags with the bag and the trim cover pointed away from your body.
• Place undeployed airbags face up on a surface in an enclosed area.
• Do not place objects near or on top of an undeployed airbag.
17.

Connect the switch, airbag, and horn connectors to the new airbag module. See Fig. 11. Then insert the
new airbag module into the steering wheel assembly.

18.

Using the two new airbag retaining screws captured within the bottom of the new steering wheel, secure
the airbag to steering wheel and tighten 44 to 53 lbf·in (500 to 600 N·cm). See Fig. 12.

19.

Make sure nobody is in the cab; then connect the batteries.

20.

While standing outside the cab and away from the front of the airbag, turn the ignition on. The SRS indicator on the dash should come on for several seconds, and then go out. If the SRS indicator goes out,
and there are no active fault codes, the system is functioning properly.
20.1 Follow the appropriate procedure in the Cascadia Troubleshooting Manual if:
• There are active fault codes
• The SRS indicator remains on
• The SRS indicator does not come on or does not come on for several seconds before going
out

21.

Install the steering wheel column covers.

27.

Install the harness cover plate and upper plastic cover on the RollTek unit, and install all push rivets.

28.

Move the seat back into the correct position.

29.

Install the airbag warning labels on driver’s sunvisor. The labels must be installed on each side of driver’s
sunvisor. See Fig. 13 for where to place the label (24-00956-000) on the underside of the sunvisor (visible
in viser-up position) and Fig. 14 for where to place the label (24-00956-001) on the top side of the sunvisor (visible in viser-down position).

30.

2.

Check the base label (Form WAR259) for a completion sticker for SF592 (Form WAR261) indicating
this work has been done. The base label is usually located on the passenger-side door, about 12-inches
(30 cm) below the door latch. If a sticker is present, no work is needed. If there is no sticker, proceed
with the next step.
Position the front tires straight ahead. If possible, drive the vehicle in a straight line for a short distance,
stopping at the spot where service work will be done.

3.

Apply the parking brakes, and shut down the engine. Chock the tires.

4.

Disconnect the batteries.

5.

Remove the seat belt from the intermediate-connecting-point threaded rod on the seat.

See Fig. 3.

7.3

Remove the two screws to remove the B-pillar grab handle.

7.4

Remove the tread plate.

7.5

On vehicles with day cab configurations, remove the back wall upholstery by removing all panel fasteners and screws. See Fig. 4 for location of fasteners. Then remove the B-pillar trim panel by removing the panel fasteners. Carefully remove the B-pillar trim panel to avoid damaging the floor harness.

7.6

On vehicles with sleeper cab configurations, remove the B-pillar trim panel fasteners. Carefully remove the B-pillar trim panel to avoid damaging the floor harness.

12.

Unplug the harness from the clockspring; then disengage the snap features on the backside of the clockspring to unsnap it from the steering column.

13.

Install the new clockspring by snapping it into place on the steering column. Trim off the tie strap from the
yellow airbag connector, and connect both connectors to the clockspring. See Fig. 10.

14.

Install the new steering wheel:
14.1 Pass the switch, airbag, and horn connectors through the hole above the center of the new steering
wheel.
