NOTE: The result of receiving this repair instruction is because P008A-00 and P0087-00 fault codes are/were
both active at the same time.

NOTE: Before proceeding, please make sure that ALL electronic control modules are up to date and there are no
pending updates available.

NOTE: The new USA17 Emission Engines Secondary Fuel Filters have a “DEEP” groove end cap with a seal to
fit on the new Fuel Filter Housings. Previous filters had a “SHALLOW" groove end cap and will not fit nor seal
properly on USA17 Emission Engines Fuel Filter Housings. It is also possible that metal debris may be created
when trying to install the incorrect filter. The Secondary Filter is mounted in the forward position on the Fuel Filter
Housing. The Primary Filter is mounted behind the Secondary, or on the frame rail. USA17 Emission Engines
require a 4 micron Secondary Filter.

Repair Instructions
Fuel Filter, Replacement (One)
1. Clean around sealing area on fuel filter and housing.

2. Before removing the fuel filter, position a container under filter to catch any fuel that might spill. Remove the
fuel filter. Note: Fuel in the old filter must absolutely not be poured into the new filter. This kind of
contaminated fuel can damage the unit injectors. Special tools: 9996672

3. Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil and install the filter. Tighten according to the instructions on the filter.

4. Prime the fuel system by pumping the hand priming pump on the fuel filter housing until resistance is felt
indicating that the system is full of fuel.
5. Start the engine and carry out a fuel-tightness check.
6. Let the engine run for about 5 minutes to remove air pockets from the fuel system. Note: The engine speed
must not be increased; otherwise air can be pressed into the cylinder head, causing the engine to stop.
7. Use Guided Diagnostics to read and clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

These repairs are the most likely fix for the identified fault, if this does not fix the issue, Tech Tool will need to be

NOTA: Los nuevos filtros de combustible secundarios para motores de emisiones USA17 tienen una tapa con
ranura “PROFUNDA” con sello para ajustarse en las nuevas carcasas del filtro de combustible. Filtros anteriores
tenían una tapa con ranura “POCO PROFUNDA” y no se ajustarán ni sellarán adecuadamente en las carcasas
del filtro de combustible en motores con emisión USA17. También es posible que se pueda haber generado
residuos metálicos cuando se intenta instalar el filtro incorrecto. El filtro secundario se monta en posición hacia
adelante en la carcasa del filtro de combustible. El filtro primario se monta detrás del secundario o en el riel del
marco. Los motores con emisión USA17 requieren un filtro secundario de 4 micras.
Instrucciones de reparación
Filtro de combustible, Reemplazo (uno)
1. Limpie alrededor del área de sellado en el filtro de combustible y la carcasa.

2. Antes de retirar el filtro de combustible, ponga un contenedor debajo del filtro para capturar combustible que
pueda derramarse. Retire el filtro de combustible. Nota: El combustible en el filtro antiguo en ningún caso se
debe verter en el nuevo filtro. Este tipo de combustible contaminado puede dañar los inyectores de la unidad.

3. Lubrique el sello con aceite de motor limpio e instale el filtro. Apriete según las instrucciones en el filtro.

4. Prepare el sistema de combustible al bombear en la bomba de preparación manual en la carcasa del filtro de
combustible hasta que se sienta resistencia, lo que indica que el sistema está lleno de combustible.
5. Encienda el motor y realice la revisión de hermeticidad del combustible.
6. Deje que el motor funcione por alrededor de 5 minutos para eliminar las bolsas de aire del sistema de
combustible. Nota: La velocidad del motor no se debe aumentar; en caso contrario, el aire puede ser empujado
hacia la cabeza de cilindros, lo que provocaría que el motor se detenga.
7. Use Diagnóstico guiado para leer y eliminar los códigos de diagnóstico de problemas (DTC).
