Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is
known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem
The cylinder head to cylinder block vertical motion pumps out oil collecting on the top surface of the cylinder
block between the drain and shim gasket sealing features.

Solution

Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and
understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and
Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow
the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death.
Proper care is your responsibility.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any compartment
containing fluids.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Remove the cylinder head using the procedure in Disassembly and Assembly , UENR0132 , Cylinder
Head - Remove and Install.
2. Inspect the cylinder block using Reuse and Salvage Guidelines , SEBF9008 , Reuse and Salvage for 3176,
3300, 3400 & C-Series Engine Cylinder Blocks to determine the reusability.
a. Ensure the quality of the surface finish on the top deck of the cylinder block. Machine the head deck
of the cylinder block if necessary.
3. Use the appropriate Testing and Adjusting , Cylinder Liner Projection - Inspect to measure the liner
projection. Set the liner projection towards the higher end of the acceptable specification.
4. Inspect the coolant passages for erosion and utilize inserts if necessary to repair any issues.
5. Inspect and salvage the lower cylinder liner bores in the cylinder block.
6. Inspect the cylinder head using Reuse and Salvage Guidelines , SEBF8162 , Reuse and Salvage for
Cylinder Head Assemblies to determine the reusability.

7. Install a new shim gasket, the shim plate, and new 359-1439 Water Seal Assemblies.
8. Reinstall the cylinder head with a new head gasket using the procedure in Disassembly and Assembly ,
UENR0132 , Cylinder Head - Remove and Install.
