Noise Symptom - Whining and Clicking Noises from A-Pillar Area at Low Engine
Load/During Overrun: Reworking Torque Support (SY 29/19)

Whining and clicking noises from the right A-pillar area at low engine load/during overrun. The noises may
be produced under the following conditions:
Whining noise:

Driving at partial load and overrun at 0–120 km/h (0–75 mph)
Engine speed 1,000–3,000 rpm

Clicking noise:
•
•

Engine idling, partial load while driving off and overrun 0–50 km/h (0–30 mph)
Engine speed 700–1,800 rpm

Cause:

Noise from the engine's valve drive can be transferred to the body via the torque support.

Remedial
Action:

Install modified bolt and washer for increased ground/insulation on the body side.

Reworking torque support
Work Procedure: 1

Unscrew bolt  Torque support -3- and remove together with washer.
Install new bolt with new washer and tighten to Tightening torque 55 Nm (41 ftlb.) .
