BULLETIN
Subject: Field Service Campaign D19M2 REV1
GHG17 Detroit™ DD5™ Fan Hub Bolt Torque Inspection
Issue Involved
Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) has determined that some GHG17 Detroit™
DD5™ engines will need to have the fan hub bolts inspected for correct torque. On
certain engines, the protective clear coat applied to the engine before fan hub
installation may cause the fan hub bolt torque to diminish over time. Decreased fan
hub bolt torque may cause failure of the fan hub and surrounding components such
as the fan and radiator, causing customer dissatisfaction.
Protective tape to mask off the fan hub installation area on the engine prior to clear coat
application became effective with engines manufactured in Germany after February 13,
2018. Any GHG17 Detroit™ DD5™ engine manufactured before this date will need the
fan hub bolts inspected for correct torque and repaired if necessary. Note that some
engines built within this time frame may already have been inspected and/or repaired,
and therefore excluded from this Field Service Campaign.
There are approximately 1,806 engines affected by this Field Service Campaign.
