REAR VIEW CAMERA FAILS TO DISPLAY IMAGE: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 5) replaces SI B66 08 17 dated March 2018. Sporadically when the rear view camera is activated no image appears in the display. The rear view camera can be activated by either: 1. Selecting reverse with the shift selector 2. SITUATION
Sporadically, when the rear view camera is activated, no image appears in the display. The rear view
camera can be activated by either:
1. Selecting reverse with the shift selector
2. Camera activation via the button on the center console
Camera function returns after a terminal change.
Note: This error situation can rarely, if ever, be duplicated on demand.
CAUSE
Head-unit interface software start-up synchronization error for the rear view camera.
CORRECTION
Reprogram and code the vehicle.
Note: This new software further improves the start-up behavior of the rear view camera/ camera system.
However, extremely sporadic failure of the rear view camera may still occur.
PROCEDURE
For conditions that are similar to the situation described:
1. Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA.
2. Complete all related test plans.
3. Program and code the vehicle only if the measures plan show new software available for:
a) Head Unit and/or

b) iCAM /TRSVC
4. Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.19.2x or higher (released September 2019).
- Target Integration Level: 19-07-553 or higher
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) when performing
programming.

PARTS INFORMATION
No parts required. Parts replacement will not provide a solution to this situation.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
During this workshop visit, the vehicle may also show one or more programming and encoding Technical
Campaign repairs open, the programming and encoding procedure may only be invoiced one time.
Update the vehicle to the required I-level or higher by performing and submitting for one of the open
Technical Campaigns instead. Please be sure to also perform any additional work (before and/or after) the
campaign repairs require and/or close the remaining open programming and encoding Technical Campaign
repairs as outlined in the corresponding Service Information Bulletin.
Only if the above situation does not apply, the BMW software solution is then:
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks or
the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Program as described below.

The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do
not have the latest software I-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this programming
procedure:
Please claim this consequential control module-related IRAP recovery procedure (when applicable as
required)/repair work under the defect code listed in this bulletin with the applicable AIR labor
operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments
section
For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:
When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim the applicable test plan and the
corresponding control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor
operations in AIR (including diagnosis with separate punch times).
