SERVICE ACTION: BODY DOMAIN CONTROLLER PROGRAMMING

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the
next time the vehicle is in the shop.
This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B61 14 19 dated September 2019.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR, the
"Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with ISPA NEXT.

SITUATION
When the vehicle is left unlocked, the interior light switch is continuously monitored. This may lead to an
increased battery draw.
Check control message “Energy management for engine start-up” may appear. Longer stationary periods may
result in a no-start depending on the battery charge state.

CAUSE
Software error in the BDC (Body Domain Controller).

CORRECTION
Reprogram the vehicle.

PROCEDURE
1. Perform diagnosis with the latest version of ISTA, working through test module. If needed perform an
Energy Diagnosis. Refer to Discharged Battery: Energy Diagnosis Must Be Performed (SI B61 13 05)
2. In the event of a yellow “Battery discharged” Check Control message, the vehicle battery must be fully
charged. If necessary, replace the battery in case it is totally discharged, refer to REP 61 21 017.
3. Is the current vehicle integration level:

4. Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.19.21 or higher (released September 11, 2019).

latest software.
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).

WARRANTY INFORMATION
During this workshop visit, the affected vehicle may also show one or more programming and encoding Technical
Campaign repairs open, the programming and encoding procedure may only be invoiced one time.
Update the vehicle to the required I-level or higher by performing and submitting for this Campaign work
(WP #1 or #3 as applicable).
For the other open campaign repairs, please be sure to also perform any additional work (before and/or
after) these repairs require and/or close the remaining programming and encoding Technical Campaign
repairs as outlined in the corresponding Service Information Bulletin.
Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via normal claim entry utilizing the following information, and when
needed for WP #1 or #3, together with the AGM battery part number that applies:

Claim Repair Comments
When AGM battery recharging or replacement is not necessary, then only reference the SIB number and the work
package (Pkg) number performed in the RO technician notes and in the claim comments (For example: B61 14
19 WP 1), unless otherwise required by State law.
Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units (RO and Claim Comments Required)
The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which do not
have the latest software I-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this programming procedure:
Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work (including the IRAP Control Unit
Recovery procedure as required, refer to the SIB in AIR) under the defect code listed in this bulletin with the
applicable AIR labor operations.
Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments section
For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:
When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim the applicable test plan and the corresponding
control module-related repair work using the applicable defect code and labor operations in AIR (including
