Subject: Freightliner Cascadia Passenger-Side Dome Light
Models Affected: Specific Freightliner Cascadia model vehicles,
manufactured September 9, 2019, through October 25, 2019.

General Information
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of it’s Freightliner Trucks division, is initiating Field
Service Campaign SF597A to modify the vehicles mentioned above.
Certain Freightliner Cascadia vehicles may have an inoperable dome light which normally activates upon
opening the right-side (passenger) door.
Vehicles will be inspected by opening the right-side (passenger) door, and if dome light is inoperable, a
modification will be made to the wiring harness.
There are approximately 500 vehicles involved.
Additional Repairs
Dealers must complete all outstanding field service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of a vehicle. Dealer
will be liable for any progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaigns before sale or
delivery of a vehicle.
Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete campaigns within a
reasonable time after receiving notification.
Please contact Warranty Campaigns for consideration of additional charges prior to performing the repair.

Work Instructions
Please refer to the attached work instructions. Prior to performing the campaign, check the vehicle for a
completion sticker (Form WAR261).

Replacement parts are now available and can be obtained by ordering the part number(s) listed below from
your facing Parts Distribution Center.
If our records show your dealership has ordered any vehicle(s) involved in campaign SF597, a list of the
customers and vehicle identification numbers will be available on DTNAConnect. Please refer to this list when
ordering parts for this campaign.

IMPORTANT: When the campaign has been completed, locate the base completion label in the appropriate location on the vehicle, and attach the gray completion sticker provided in the field service kit (Form WAR261). If
the vehicle does not have a base completion label, clean a spot on the appropriate location of the vehicle and
first attach the base completion label (Form WAR259). If a field service kit is not required or there is no completion sticker in the kit, write the campaign number on a blank sticker and attach it to the base completion label.

Claims for Credit
You will be reimbursed for your parts, labor, and handling (landed cost for Export Distributors) by submitting
your claim through the Warranty system within 30 days of completing this campaign. Please reference the
following information in OWL:
• Claim type is Field Service Campaign.
• In the Campaign field, enter the campaign number and appropriate group (SF597-A).
• In the Primary Failed Part field, enter 25-SF597-000.
• In the Parts section, enter the appropriate part number(s) as shown in the Replacement Parts Table.
• In the Labor section, enter the appropriate SRT from the Labor Allowance Table. Administrative time will
be included automatically as SRT 939-6010A for 0.3 hours.
• The VMRS Component Code is F99-999-005 and the Cause Code is A1 - Campaign.
• This Field Service Campaign will terminate on February 28, 2021. Dealers will be notified of any changes
to the termination date via Important Campaign Information Letter posted on DTNAConnect.com.
IMPORTANT: OWL must be viewed prior to beginning work to ensure the vehicle is involved and the campaign
has not previously been completed. Also, check for a completion sticker before beginning work.
All claims must be submitted within 30 days of the repair and within 30 days of the termination date of the
campaign. U.S. and Canadian Dealers: All excess inventory to be returned to the PDC following the conclusion
of the campaign must be returned in resaleable condition to the Memphis PDC within 90 days from the
termination date. Please submit a PAR to request return to the Memphis PDC. (Canadian dealers should return
the kits to their facing PDC.) Export Distributors: Excess inventory is not returnable.

September 9, 2019, through October 25, 2019.
Certain Freightliner Cascadia vehicles may have an inoperable dome light which normally activates upon

Vehicles will be inspected by opening the right-side (passenger) door, and if dome light is inoperable, a
modification will be made to the wiring harness.
Please contact an authorized Daimler Trucks North America dealer to arrange to have the campaign performed
and to ensure that parts are available at the dealership. To locate an authorized dealer, go to

brand. The campaign will take approximately one hour and will be performed at no charge to you.
This Field Service Campaign will terminate on February 28, 2021. Please make sure the campaign is
completed prior to this date. Work completed after this date will be done at the customer’s expense.
As stated in the terms of your express limited warranty, Daimler Trucks North America LLC will not pay for any
damage caused by failure to properly maintain your vehicle. Daimler Trucks North America LLC considers the
work necessary under this campaign to be proper maintenance and will, therefore, not pay for any damage to
your vehicle caused by your failure to have the repairs that are the subject of this campaign performed in a
reasonable time.

Work Instructions
Subject: Freightliner Cascadia Passenger-Side Dome Light
Models Affected: Specific Freightliner Cascadia model vehicles,
manufactured September 9, 2019, through October 25, 2019.

SF597A - Dome Light Inspection/Wiring Harness Repair
1.

Inspect the base label (Form WAR259) for a completion sticker for SF597 (Form WAR261). The base label
is usually located on the passenger-side door, about 12 inches (30 cm) below the door latch. If a sticker is
present for campaign SF597, no work is needed. If there is no sticker, continue with the steps below.

2.

With both cab doors closed and the cab dome light off, open the right-hand (passenger) door and visually
inspect the cab dome light.
2.1

If the cab dome light comes on when the passenger door is opened, no further work is needed.
Clean a spot on the base label (Form WAR259) and attach a completion sticker for SF597 (Form
WAR261) to indicate the work has been completed.

2.2

If the cab dome light does not come on when the passenger door is opened, continue with the following repair.

3.

Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.

4.

Disconnect the battery cables.

5.

Remove the center lower dash cover:

Remove the four screws. See Fig. 1.

Pull the clips loose from the dash frame and the right-hand front wall bracket then remove the cover.

Locate the sSAM X8 connector at right lower corner of the sSAM then release the lever lock and remove
the connector. See Fig. 2.

If present, remove any harness tape or fiber wrap on the wires to expose approximately 4 inches (10 cm)
of the purple/white wire going to pin 1 (circuit #108D). See Fig. 5.

10.

Splice 8 inches (20 cm) of black 18 gauge wire onto the purple/white wire:
10.1 Cut the purple/white wire approximately 3 inches (8 cm) from the pin 1 terminal, and retain this 3-inch
piece.
10.2 Strip approximately 1/2 inch (1 cm) of wire insulation from the dash harness side of purple/white wire.
10.3 Strip approximately 1/2 inch (1 cm) of wire insulation from an 8-inch piece of black 18 gauge wire.
10.4 Twist the dash harness side purple/white wire and the black wire together. See Fig. 7. Then insert the
twisted wires into the butt connector (p/n PHM 1 1862), and crimp using tool DKIOCHA17003-3. See
the left side of Fig. 10.

11.

Strip approximately one inch (2 cm) of wire insulation from the 3-inch piece of purple/white wire removed
from pin 1. See Fig. 8. Then fold the stripped section of wire in half. See Fig. 9.

Insert the folded section of wire into the empty end of butt connector; then crimp using tool
DKIOCHA17003-3. See Fig. 10 for a representative image of the butt-spliced wires.

Using a heat gun, carefully heat shrink the butt connector.

14.

Strip approximately 1/4 inch (.5 cm) of wire insulation from end of black wire opposite the butt connector.

15.

Crimp the terminal (p/n 23-13209-730) on the black wire using tool DKIOCHA17003-2; then insert the
black wire terminal into sSAM X8 pin 2.

16.

Insert the 3-inch purple/white wire, which should still have the original terminal attached, into the original
location at sSAM X8 pin 1. See Fig. 11.

17.

Slide the inner terminal housing into the X8 connector.

18.

Wrap and secure the harness as needed, then install connector X8 into the sSAM and lock in place with
the lever lock.

19.

Install the center lower dash cover. For installation, snap the locator pin on the lower dash cover in place
first, then install the screws in the sequence shown in Fig. 1.

20.

Connect the battery cables.

21.

With both cab doors closed and the cab dome light off, open the right-hand (passenger) door and visually
confirm that the passenger-side cab dome light is now functioning properly.

22.

Clean a spot on the base label (Form WAR259), and attach a completion sticker for SF597 (Form
WAR261) to indicate the work has been completed.
