UPDATE: Takata ‘Like-for-Like Recalls’ - TKA20 (Zone A), TKB20 (Zone B), TKC20 (Zone C)
Owner notification will begin on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. Affected VINs will be loaded into the system
and the TKA20/TKB20/TKC20 bulletin will be posted to STIS later today. Please refer to the remainder
of this message for additional detail.
As previously communicated, the next phase of the Takata recalls will be launched early next year.
That phase will include approximately 500,000 Subaru vehicles which previously had an interim repair
performed under the current Takata recalls. Interim repairs, also referred to as like-for-like repairs,
involved the installation of a non-desiccated PSAN Takata-sourced inflator, prior to the availability of final
repair parts which do not contain PSAN.
Background
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is prioritizing the recalls of all non-desiccated
Takata-sourced air bag inflators containing the propellant Phase Stabilized Ammonium Nitrate (PSAN)
based on the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.
NHTSA has ordered the affected automakers to prioritize the Takata recalls by age and location history of
the vehicles. To do so, NHTSA has established three geographical Zones – A, B, and C – based on the level
of heat and humidity.

Parts Information and Repair Procedures
The TKA20/TKB20/TKC20 bulletin will be posted to STIS once affected vehicle information is loaded into
the system later today.
Affected Vehicles and Owner Notification
Retailer affected vehicle counts by MY/carline were distributed in December to all Regional/Distributor
offices to assist with capacity planning purposes. Lists of the affected VINs will be distributed shortly.
Owner notification will begin January 7, 2020 and will be phased in weekly mail drops through the end of
February. Listed below is the current mailing plan, based on the model year (MY) of the affected vehicles:
